Floating a thought Because I like different. 3 gold Ys with blaster turret backed up with kyle with recon in Crow. Kyle has turret of some flavor as well. The thought is to fly right through the enemy formation staying fairly tight. Possibly jamming them up some in movement as well. I know ion is often preferred to blaster turrets but do not want to much damage dilution either. Think large flying obstacle, sort of like the box formations used in ww2. I might throw a r5 on each of the golds with the 3 left over points. Lots of hull to chew thru as well. Thoughts?

At first glance I thought this thread was about VD.
Bear in mind that the strength of turrets is that it gives you more wiggle room with your maneuvering. You don't really need to keep a tight formation, but I'd definitely recommend you fly away from the enemy, not towards them. Let them chase you around. Also, that's too many Blaster Turrets. Kyle can only share one focus a turn, which means the rest of your ships are dependent upon their own for throwing red dice. Consequently, they won't have any actions left to modify the dice, which is a major drawback. I'd take a lone hit and an ion token over gambling with natural throws any day.
Edited by WonderWAAAGHDon't let Blaster Turrets blind you. They may cost a touch less to equip and have the potential to deal three hits but do they always deliver? The big thing is they cost you your Focus to use them; this means you NEED an action to use them, makes them useless against Dark Curse, and means you actually need to roll those hits. The next thing is simply "are you going to deal more damage with them?" They have the potential to deal three with crits but that means you need to be hitting with more dice than an Ion Turret would hit with but you don't get the benefit of Focus to make sure you get them. If your target rolls one or two Evades cuts that blaster damage down to the point Ions hit just as hard but the ion leaves them with a little something extra.
Try Gold + Ion Turret (x3) plus Kyle/Crow/Blaster/Recon and see how many "wasted" hits those Ion Turrets get without the benefit of Focus. My real though it that putting in a 4th Y and upgrading them all to Greys would make it tougher.
Blaster vs Ion,
Blaster eats your focus and hits for maybe 2
ion attacks with 3, can be focused to hit more often, only hits for 1, Buuuuuut, sets your oponent's move for them the next round.
I'm a big, big fan of the Ion turret. You can think of it as "half" or you can think of it as "1 less with gravy".
/edit, UG BT hits with 3 too.. I still stand by Ion as awesome. It's in the 'gravy'.
Edited by Stelar 7I you wanted to be an A-Hole being a blocking-shooting-battering-ram... I thought this up a while ago but am yet to use it since I only own 1 Falcon.

advice much appreciated. So, do 4 ywings with ion work or is that too little damage output? Guess now I am thinking 2b 2y or a 2x 2y build. let the ys go in and ion, and let the Xs or Bs, hammer whoever gets zapped.

I think that's a much better idea. You can put Adv. Sensors on the B-Wings, or try this list, which does a little of everything:
23 "Dutch" Vander
+5 Ion Cannon Turret
+1 R2 Astromech
21 Kyle Katarn
+4 Blaster Turret
+3 Moldy Crow
+1 Nien Nunb
21 Rookie Pilot x2
