Ok, so what I am thinking about is this option. equipping bombers with prox mines to rush forward, k turn, and drop prox mines "filling in the gaps" between asteroids while jendon sits back in the shuttle and starts locking stuff up. the bombers then return, k turn again, pick up some target locks and start hunting. this may allow you to keep the enemy at range, and give you an advantage at long range with ordinance. I have not played more than about 10 games, so tell me what you more experienced players think about this.
tell me what you think : prox mines
I prefer guaranteeing the damage from Prox Mines, but using it to line up a lane is definitely something. However, Colonel Jendon is not a good choice for this fleet, because the Shuttle is the easiest fish to catch in this trap. Also remember that you can't K-Turn and drop a Prox in the same turn.
Long story short: I like Prox Mines, and I like your strategy, but not necessarily your tactics or execution.
I would never, ever purposely expose my back to the enemy's front firing arc, even for the sake of dropping mines. That having been said, if you absolutely must run this list, you should replace Jendon with Yorr.
Edited by WonderWAAAGHYeah, I don't think that would work out too well, in order to drop proxies you need an action, so if you k turn you lose your action. You would either need to have Yorr nearby which would be tricky, or you would need adrenaline rush, which would mean you would have to use rhymer and jonus, and having them turn away from the enemies seems like a bad idea.
Ok. Thanks. Problem I have run into with bombers is fetting the lock, then the shot before they are on top of me. Back to the drawing board
How are you having problems getting the shot off? Cluster Missiles and APTs I understand, but everything else is range 2-3. If you mean you can't focus and TL on the same turn for maximum effectiveness, try PtL or Squad Leader on one of the named bombers.
I guess I would like to slow up their advance, turn my shuttle sideways, lock up 2 targets, and get 2 long range shots off with TL and focus. The thought was that between asteroid placement and prox mines I could make a wall of sorts that would slow them down while I locked them up, then shoot them at range 3, then as they trickled through the cracks or came around an end, hit em with the shuttle and more ordinance. with their movement slowed / controlled, it buys a lot of time for TL and focus together, which maximizes the missiles.
Flying through asteroids is a less than 50% chance of 1 damage. I'd take that on most ships for a full round of free shots at you with no chance of return fire. Your opponent would have to be a pretty poor pilot or have really bad luck or both to not take advantage of you in that situation.
You can do this with a firespray though its not as useful or cheap.

Flying through asteroids is also action prevention, which will often result in reduced damage dealt and/or greater damage received.
I agree that I'd rather fly over an Asteroid than over a Prox Mine, though.
You just sacrificed your own combat phase to negate their action phase IF they can't pilot your wall. That's a trade that most opponents would make it a heartbeat. You gained nothing and they still gained an extra round of shooting.

Well, what you could do is have your flight place the mines close to, but not in between the asteroids to make large areas of the board dangerous for the opponent. Think of odd ways to line your ships up during deployment so that a single round or perhaps 2 rounds could have them at ideal locations.
