So, I am thinking of making a special group within my 1st Lokarin regiment, for one of my NPCs; the Blades, for Governor Krueger. Other than the rarity of Power Knives (not too big an issue when your leader is practically a little Rogue Trader, and you only need a few, rather than a whole regiment's worth), would there be any real difficulty? They should be able to attach to a lasgun, and serve as a power spear in close combat, which the power fist-lugging Krueger is kitted to deal with, while maintaining their ranged ability, as they close with the enemy. After his first foray into Orky CC, wherein Krueger got impaled, pinned to the ground, heroically killed the Nob, and was medivacced out, followed up by some serious surgery, it stands to reason that he'd form up an assault squad to ring him, Weapon Specialists, I rather like, but I don't want to pull a squad of power swords.

Silliness aside, mechanically, would it work?

1. Take the "The Few" drawback, it fits any small but well equipped force (like Kaskrin)

2. Buy CQ Power Blades (Very Rare, -20), a lot of GM's throw in the melee attachment, because in real life, bayonet attachments are small and cheap, you just need your knife.

I can see no reason why this wouldn't work.

The rules for regular bayonet say to count it as a spear so you could use the profile of a power spear which is found in the Hammer of the Emperor. HotE incidentally already has rules for chain bayonets (which count as chain knife rather than chain glaive) so power bayonet would certainly not be impossible. (Though the tech is so expensive that those would not be commonly used. Maybe a small elite bodyguard unit like you proposed or a Rogue trader's private troops would use them.)

Have you considered shields, recoil gloves, and a lasgun with a bayonet? I'm sure a power bayonet would work. There's even a Power Spear in Hammer of the Emperor. If a mono knife could become a mono spear once fixed to a lasgun, then surely a "power knife" (if there was one) should become a power spear... right?

IIRC the power knife is called a power blade, for some odd reason.
