If an oponent controls one of my House Bolton characters, what happens when they are killed - do they get returned to my control (in Moribund) before hitting the dead pile?

I expect not but I can always hope ... I'd quite like to be able to play "In Ramsays Name" in the plot phase and then play VM

Short answer: No, there is no control change during moribund.

The cards go to their owner's respective out-of-play area when they are physically removed from play, ending any "take control" effect, but such effects would still be considered active while the cards are moribund.
