Wishlists for Heroes & Monsters Collections

By Ringskipper, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

yeah but only for the master, that's like one stun out of the bunch as compared to like giants who can stun a whole group

I haven't actually used razorwings very much in D2E, but their high move is not something to shake a stick at.. From my memories of D1E, they can swoop in, attack, and then fly back out of range very easily. The ability to ignore obstacles and other figures (due to Fly) also makes it really easy to get away again.

The fact that the master has Stun is just adding insult to injury (pun intended.)

btw unrelated thing, where is that threat about monster suggestions? I used search but could not find it.

I need clarification here. I JUST got Descent First Edition mint condition ($40!) in the mail today simply for the heroes and monsters. I ordered the conversion kit as well obviously. Will these new sets replace what I JUST bought? Should I turn around and sell what I just got and buy these new sets instead. Should I keep both?

Right now, I have Descent 2.0, LoW, LoR, TF and several lieutenant packs. And now I have Descent 1.0 with the conversion.

I'm getting lost as to what these newer sets are. Any help would be great.

Regarding decisions, well, its you money and anxiety. :P You have a great amount of stuff already.

It says "many" of them have already appeared before in D1E. So I assume there will be new things never seen before but also possibly some stuff STILL left out from D1E. I guess I'll just buy it all...lol. I hate missing out on things.

I like the fact they are updating them, everyone seems to think a number of the monsters are broken. Some are useless while others are overpowered. This is why i never bought them personally as i read a number of people call them game breaking.

So its nice that they are getting an update, it will fix the overpowered/underpowered heroes and monsters for those who already own the 1e while giving those of us who dont own the 1e monsters/heroes an opportunity to pick them up.

Meanwhile the models get upgraded, so they will fit in better with the more detailed monsters of 2e.

The way i see it, everyone wins :) Then again i am biased in my opinion(who here isn't?) as i don't own the 1e monsters and i am looking forward to picking these up.

That said i can see why some people (1e owners) would prefer ffg release new monsters entirely.

edit: Chachi beat me to this barely !

The update does say " Many of the heroes and monsters included in Hero and Monster Collections are updated versions of heroes and monsters previously only available in the first edition of Descent.". So there will also be some new heroes/monsters packed in there to give further incentive to 1e owners.

I'd prefer if they didn't enforce that incentive - new and rehased are best kept seperate for previous 1e owners. Releasing them in seperate boxes would be a better idea.

A lot of 1e owners would rather pay full price for a full set of new beasties & heroes rather than full price for a couple they don't already have.

As an owner of the Conversion Kit, I'd like to know if some of these monsters are changed/updated enough or just given a new look. For an example, I don't see much of a difference in how the Chaos Beast works, which I've never considered to be an exceptionally powerful monster. Everything seems to work exactly as it was in the Kit, unless I've missed some slight changes in the numbers.

While I'll probably buy a few of these sets if the price is right, I'm kinda confused if there's actually any new material besides the mission maps or if it's all about the pretty new figures (and pretty they are!)

Pretty new figures with updates to address some balance issues it looks like. But more so it lets people who dont have access to the 1st edition stuff a chance to pick up more heroes and monsters in chunks, having spent a lot of time and money tracking down a full set of figures i can attest that i would rather have bought these kits (and will doubtlessly do so anyway, stupid ffg plastic addiction)

So glad I refrained from buying anything d1. And I just might buy these.

I decided to simply move forward with our collection. I simply refuse to pay what people are asking for D1E expansions so I'll have to use stand-ins for what I am missing. Lieutenants I'll still buy of course. But these new monster and hero packs will have to be something AMAZING to rebuy things yet again.

And I will expand my collection, I do own all 1e and now bought all 2e, and will buy Heroes & Monsters Collection just to have more minis with new quests. And if You look close enought You will see that rewards for thiose new quests will be Overlord cards which make them even more valuable for me.

Let us be honest I will buy all what FFG will release for this game becouse I love it.

Cheers

I'll get them because I avoided buying 1E stuff.

I'm a fan of Descent from the start of 1e that's why I own all of it. But still I'm going to buy more. ;)

I'm too going to buy all stuff, but I really would like to have some "non humans" heroes.

Agree 100% with that, would love to get a new Minotaur!

Same here ! I'm really curious to see the new Ispher's look !

I would love to see a new minotaur!

The Descent Wiki has a list of all the races from the 2nd edition (located here ), and it's funny to see that 32 humans, 12 elves, 9 orcs, and 7 dwarves, but then 3 or less of all the other races. I still really, really want a merfolk-type of hero!

I want to see anything but a human, elf, orc or dwarf. Something new

Why not a catfolk with an heroic feat able him to morph into a more savage form of himself for 3 turns ?

I really like that idea! It'd be really interesting to see a hero who can transform into something else (especially a large creature of some sort).

And they have to include the model for the morphed form aswell obviously :P we dont want to imagine the transformation :)

Oh, god, that'd be so horrible if the transformation was a token, lol!

For what it's worth, there's evidence in the fluff that suggests minotaurs are another type of hybrid developed by dragonlords during the Dragon Wars, which would explain their obscurity. They may not even be capable of reproducing by themselves.

Also, Ispher is a Hybrid, like Belthir. Not a "lizardfolk." Not all hybrids are made the same way.

There are are other cat-people in the other Terrinoth games, notably Runebound and its expansions. I'm guessing Lyssa is a halfbreed since she seems a lot more human than most other leonids.

what are some of the broken ones in your opinion?

what are some of the broken ones in your opinion?

I do not want to go into this not having first hand experience playing with the conversion kit. My opinion comes from considering picking up what 1st edition monsters/heroes, i did some looking around and heard several comments about how using the conversion kit added further balancing issues to the game. Its that research that made me decide that perhaps spending big bux on chasing down the first edition material might not be such a good idea.

Also its already been shown FFG have slightly altered some of the monsters in this expansion which is further evidence of balancing issues existing in the conversion kit.

Sorry i cant be more clear than that, i would recommend researching this yourself.
