How many people will stick with Interceptors?

By onebit, in X-Wing

Ints require a high degree of tactical flying, you have to be willing to pick your shots, sacrificing focusing shots in favor of defense sometimes or sacrificing a shot completely to avoid being hit and setting up a better shot next round.

Fly them into the teeth of the enemy and it's dead time. Be prepared to play the "long game" and they are awesome.

The other night my wife one-shotted Fel with a bloody prototype A-Wing. rolled a crit and an eye, focused the eye, and I wiffed the evade roll. And you can guess what crit I drew

This is the reason why people don't take interceptors in tournaments on a regular basis. It is that one lucky roll that turns you completely sour against them.

Oh no, I'm not sour on the interceptors. Won't run too many in a tournament, but I LOVE running them in friendly games. I'm sour at her for shooting him lol

I'm excited to test our Lorrir. Also have some interesting ideas of using Kir Kanos. They will definitely be fun to pilot.

I am psyched, with the aces expansion I'll have the 5 I need to max an Interceptor squad. I may not field all interceptors all the time but when I fly imps there are >almost< always interceptors.

Every time I use them I remember that mission in Tie Fighter where I had to take out a minefield in one, then the ties jump me because my home ship defected... good times.

I tested Lorrir and Cowall the other night against 2 red squad x wings.. it was brutal.. After about 7 turns.. Both x wings were dead and only 1 hit each on the squints.. 1 due an asteroid. I took no focus or evades.. barrel rolled or boosted.. Lorrir is awesome .. his sliding barrel roll got me behind an X wing every time I did it.. Cowall variable K turn only came up once, but it was nice to have..

I agree with Pete! Interceptors are a different kind of tactic than flying a swarm. It takes a different skill set.

Absolutely sticking with them... probably even fly them more now (if that's possible).

I've always been of the mind that they are great single ships to add to lists and you can't swarm with them at competitive level. Imperial Aces will hopefully provide them enough options to start making a showing but, sadly, I don't think it will impact the competitive meta too greatly (I think it was already shifting to 4-6 ship imperial lists with moderate PS).

I see Cowall and Kir getting some run and probably Llorrir as well. I also think there are some unknown cards in it still so who knows what they'll have in store for us.

I do have to say, I thoroughly enjoy running dual ninja squints (or one ninja squint with Vader+engine boost) with a shuttle with Yorr plus FCS+gunner doing sniping plus pulling stress off of the interceptors. I'm probably not good enough to field it in a tournament.......yet.

I've always loved my squints! A pair of 3D attacks lays in more hits and crits than three 2D ones. And it's a more economical use of Stealth-Device/Attack-Dice.

I guess I will answer the original question. If we get a ship that is basically a TIE Advanced but with three attack dice, unless it is really expensive it will make the TIE Interceptor less cool.

One of my favorite things that FFG has done with this game is it started with the TIE Fighter and the X-Wing. These are the core ships of Star Wars. Each expansion has added options and depth to the game but we have never got a ship that makes me think that I won't want to use TIEs or X-wings again.

Similarly, if a EU ship came out that supplanted any of the Cannon ships (I mean ships that appear in the movies) it would really bug me.

I kinda like that the only EU ship we have is arguably the worst ship in the whole range.

While I generally don't like Shadow of the Empire, I would like to see those fighter ships that were in the Nintendo game. I think someday a lot of new toys could come from a third pirate or corporate sector faction.

I def will I just am considering using a support craft like the shuttle along with the Interceptors.

Almost the same frickin thing happened to me about a week ago against a friend! One shotted Fel with a darn rookie pilot! Rolled one crit, one eye, and a blank. (Range 2 by the way so no dice bonus). He used his focus to turn his eye into a hit. I rolled one evade and two blanks. Cancelled the regular hit and took the critical and drew Direct Hit! FML

If there's a wave 4 Imperial ship with 3 attack and shields I predict it will be very popular. If only Storm Squadron had EPT for Opportunist...

Oh boy, here we go with another Tie Defender thread. :P

You're asking me... a pilot who went from X-wings and A-wings to the TIE Interceptor if I'll "stick with it" ?

Son, I wouldn't be in this high speed death trap if I wasn't sure I could handle it.

I love the Ties...all of them.

It is not about using the best models possible to win a game.

;)

Word up. Its all about having a good time and nerding out.

I love a 4x Saber squad. Tons of fun! I'm completely sold on interceptors. Bombers and advanced, not so much.

You know it Bro!

:D

If you need to win, you have already lost...

There is a real winner.

I agree completely. I play for fun and if I do win oh well and if I lose oh well. Nerding out is what I do and I do it well. I also am not a fan of bombers but I do have fun with the advanced with Vader w/ PTL and Daredevil though.

I am sticking with the interceptors since they are my favorite imperial ship.

Exactly! This is the same reason why I want to fly tie-wings. I know they're pieces of junk, I just like to fly them.

Right Brothers...

:)

The Interceptor is a very powerful ship.

As others have said, though, variance is a cruel, cruel mistress.

Having had an event this weekend, I can honestly say that the Interceptor is a superb craft. The enemy squad was essentially the currently available 2nd/181st roster plus Dark Curse, and whilst I won it was mostly due to luck.

Interestingly, push the limit didn't feature - he used four squints (including the Baron and Phenir), all with Daredevil. Those things were hooning around the sky like fruitbats on cocaine and even with both front and rear guns I was struggling to keep them in arc. The fact that just about eveything is green means they could shed the stress quickly, and Fel (of course) got his bonus focus token. I remember one turn where he pulled a hard '1' and daredeviled a hard one the other way, slaloming around a squadmate and focusing into the bargain.

I only won because of a 'you have offended the dice gods' shot where a Firespray fired at an undamaged, focused Dark Curse, who had a stealth device, was at long range, and sheltering behind an asteroid....and one-shotted him.

Sometimes the laser bolt just has your name on it.

my interceptors are always in my lists and so far they survive every game I play with them, makes me feel that real aces are flying them lol. I'm definitely sticking with them, their mobility is just crazy, and it sickens my friend who I play against every game of how well they evade. oh and not to mention the damage they can do especially at range one, on days that the dice gods love you, interceptors are unholy.

Super Fel, hands down, is my favorite fighter. Soontir + PTL + Stealth is nuts. The amount of stuff he can kill for a measley 33 points is insane. Turning him into Sooper Fel (adding RGT and targeting computer) sounds even better.

The other Ints are also gonna be near and dear to me still. I like the PS6 swarm, and wanted to add interceptors, so I came up with this:

Kir Kanos (24)

-Stealth Device (3)

Backstabber (16)

Dark Curse (16)

Black Squadron Pilot (14)

-Veteran Instincts (1)

Royal Guard Interceptor (22)

-Stealth Device (3)

You have two ships at 3/4/3/0 and three at 2/3/3/0, all at PS 6
