PTL and Swarm Tactics information please

By RyonAndo, in X-Wing

So to keep it simple, what makes push the limit such a great upgrade?

Also Why play swarm tactics on a tie swarm on the higher PS ships. I would think that if I could play it on black squadron pilots with the upgrade I could make my high PS ships more maneuverable and get them around the map in the early stages of the game with howlrunner or backstabber or even Mauler Mithel. I can see that doing it reverse of what I stated would allow you to shoot first I suppose but I like the thought of being highly mobile in the the fragile tie fighters.

PTL is such a great upgrade because for a Stress Token it gives everyone Vader's innate Ability.

Swarm Tactics on the higher PS ships is used for Cascading PS skill (EDIT: during combat phase ) .

If you have Howlrunner + BSP + Academy and both Howl and BSP have Swarm all 3 of them shoot at Howl's PS.

Edit:::

Also If you're using Swarm on BSP to share PS to Academy why not just use a second BSP? It cost the same a frees up the EPT.

Academy (12) + BSP (14) + Swarm(2) = 28

BSP (14) + BSP (14) = 28

THe way I first set it up was 2x BSP with howl and backstabber with the BSP's having swarm and flying the as two flights with a Lambda in there as somewhat of a meat shield while I use the two flights of ties to flank the enemies in a pincer movement. But Im not sure if swarm applies to all rounds or just during a round of your choosing if that makes any sense.

How would giving a BSP Swarm Tactics make a higher PS ship more maneuverable? You do realize that Swarm Tactics triggers at the start of the Combat Phase which is long after everyone has moved; they would not allow a higher PS ship to move earlier during the movement phase of the game.

The primary purpose of Swarm Tactics is simply to allow lower PS ships the opportunity to shoot before an enemy's higher PS ship has the opportunity to destroy them. You give ST to Howlrunner so that an Academy TIE can fire with the PS 8s and thus gets its shot off before someone like Garven or Ibtisam destroys it.

It only applies during the combat phase in which you trigger it. Granted, you can retrigger it each combat phase, but it does not create a lasting effect.

Academy (12) + BSP (14) + Swarm(2) = 16

BSP (14) + BSP (14) = 16

28, not 16.....

Academy (12) + BSP (14) + Swarm(2) = 16

ya bad math... editing... and derping

Thanks for clearing it up for me everyone, I've only been playing/had this game for about 3 weeks now so sorry if my questions seems a little derp a derp. Cheers

PTL is considered superb because of the double actions it gives you.

Let us use a theoretical Firespray-31 with PTL. When attacking, you can Target Lock AND Focus, which means each individual attack die only has a 1/16 chance of missing. When you're not attacking, you can Evade AND Focus, which gives you similarly excellent dodging.

On a theoretical Interceptor with the upcoming Targeting Computer, you can choose 2 from the following list: Target Lock, Focus, Evade, Barrel Roll, and Boost, meaning you can hit like a truck, or dodge like the dickens, decide to simply be elsewhere, or any lesser combination of the 3 options.

We've done the math, too. A TL+Focus combo will, on average, result in around twice the expected damage from an Expose.

A great deal of the greater strategy of this game relies in the Actions that are available. PTL gives you 2 actions in a turn, and is superb. Advanced Sensors gives you your action(s) before or after your maneuver, meaning that you don't have to lose it to a red or to a collision, and is also superb. Adrenaline Rush gives you 1 action that isn't normally granted, and is one of the 2 best used 1 point Elite Pilot Talents. Tie Swarms will force folks to collide with them, preventing the actions of their opponents, et cetera, et cetera...

Your Questions are fine... the Derping was my Math... cause 12+14+2 AND 14+14 =/= 16 but does =28

Because you pass on the better-than-black squadron pilot skill. You can 'daisy-chain' swarm tactics across several pilots.

If all you've got are Academy and Black Squadron with Swarm Tactics, you might as well use two Black Squadrons. If you've got DS-61-2 "Mauler Mithel", also with swarm tactics, then Mithel passes his impressive Pilot Skill 7 to the Black Squadron pilot, who then passes it in turn to the Academy pilot.
