I'm sure Dark Horse will do a good job, but I'm not really into comic books, and this would have made an incredible TCW story arc.

It's nice to see Dark Horse make the best of there time with the license before it is up. They've had some good stuff, especially in the Legacy Era series. Even though I haven't watched the CW series, some aspects have intrigued me. This sounds interesting as I've always found the Darth Maul character under-used.

There was talk of the material that was already completed for the Season 6 (which wasn't a whole lot) being released, but I've not heard anything recent on that.

Being one of those that wasn't a fan of them resurrecting Darth Maul, I really couldn't care less about this news one way or the other. As far as my personal canon goes, Maul dies on Naboo, being nothing more than a phantom menace...

I was extremely cynical about it myself before I saw how they treated it. I thought his story arcs ended up being some of the most interesting and effective.

Huh? This was done in the show. They completely retconned Dathomir while going into the society on the planet, then destroyed it all. Maul came back and had his big battle with Sidious. Maul got his backside punted and brother slaughtered.

The finished episodes are being released in some format here shortly I think. February or maybe April I think I read somewhere.

I always kept watching but feel the series went downhill from early season three on. It fell victim to more episodes and arcs focusing on Jedi affairs or politics then the war itself. Not all of them were bad but the Sidestory arcs should never have been allowed to outnumber the war arcs. The return of Darth Maul, who IMO should have stayed dead, only made the problem worse. If it were up to me all the Maul related arcs, the Force Ghost Family Arc, the Temple bombing Arc, and the Mandalore kids arc would all be wiped away and replaced with arcs focused on the front lines of the war. Specifically I would want a prequel episode to the Mon Cala arc focused on a space battle against a pirate fleet raiding the system with the local defense fleet having to battle the pirates with little Republic support, and Captain Ackbar commanding one of the defense fleet task forces. The episode would end with the discovery of the body of the Mon Cala King setting up Water War. I would also like to see the battle where the Kenobi Offensive was developed, and an arc focused on the Battle of Dreighton, along with a few arcs showing some of the future Imperial leaders like Colonel Romodi in action. Possibly future Rebel general Rieekan, and Garm bel Iblis as well, and show some of the fighting in the Alderaan and Corellian sectors. Also I would have liked to see a CIS military commander motivated by idealism rather then greed or bloodlust. The comics had them though they usually died at story's end but the cartoon didn't include any I can recall. I would have ended the series with a 5 episode arc focused on the Battle of Coruscant before Aakin and ObiWan arrived.

Sorry, I really don't care for new stories about a dead guy that was cut in half (literally) in the movies. Yes I know something insane was made up to bring zombie Maul back from obvious death, but sorry I thought it was fing stupid. Stories about Maul before his body went their seperate ways? Sure. Or, how about be more creative, and you know, create a new evil jedi to be the protagonist in these new stories?

I've avidly collected the DH books and am quite saddened by this news even though it should not be a surprise. This has been the MO since Disney bought Star Wars. The Dark Times comics have been some of the best stories and art that I have read in a LONG time.

Just a matter of time. Once Disney bought the rights, it makes little sense to let Dark Horse continue to produce the comics when you own your own comic company. I'm interested to see the Star Wars franchise back in Marvel hands.

It got significantly better during the third season. Although someone else in this thread has the opposite opinion of me.

Given these specifics, it sounds like you've already seen these stories, so why rehash them yet again? There was another Clone Wars cartoon that covered Obi-wan and Anakin just before Ep III started up, so why do it again? Same with the fighting on Mon Cal (though that was touched upon again in the 3D cartoon).

A lot of what I mentioned is only known in vague details. The Kenobi Offensive tactic was mentioned in one post-ROTJ novel, and detailed in a sourcebook but despite knowing it was developed during the Clone Wars we don't even know the name of the battle it was developed at and the series had plenty of time to include it if the writers hadn't gone overboard with the sidestories, many of which had little to do with the war IMO.

The Battle of Dreighton. we know it lasted a month, where and why it took place, the results, and that it turned into a three-way battle between the Republic, CIS, and a Black Sun/Hutt coalition but all of this is from the New Essential Chronology ad a mention in a GCW era computer game. To me that sounds like something that would be incredible to see on screen,. If you disagree that's your right of course..

The Mon Cala idea I mentioned was meant to leadup to what we saw on screen. It seems like there were fewer major space battles depicted as the series went on, and adding one as a prequel to the Mon Calamari arc would let us see Ackbar on the bridge of a ship again, which I consider a nice bonus.

We know Rieekan was part of the Republic Army during the war but that's it, bel Iblis was leading a Corellian militia during much of the war and Romodi we know was one of the first non-clones, and non-Jedi put in command of clone forces plus a few locations he fought at during the war. Alderaan we know a little about one battle fought in the system, that there were others fought nearby or within the system and that the population was so horrified by what happened that they scrapped their military after the war. IMO there's plenty of room to expand on any of these points and the writers had time to do so but instead focused on things like kids chasing corrupt government officials, a planet of Force Ghosts, and the return of a villain who logically would have been dead for a decade..

The episode Heroes on Both Sides and its arc was disappointing to me because combined with what we saw elsewhere in the series it seemed to send the message that while Separatist politicians might have good intentions their military commanders were motivated by greed, bloodlust, or a love of terrorizing others. The pre-3D cartoon Clone Wars comics did a great job showing some CIS military commanders who honestly believed in the Separatist cause, would it have really been so hard to do something similar in the cartoon?

And I don't want to see what Anakin and Obi-Wan were doing before they jumped to Coruscant I want to see what was happening on and around Coruscant before they got there. I know part of the battle was covered by the previous cartoon, and part by Labyrith of Evil but this was one of the largest battles of the war so I fail to see why there isn't room for more material concerning it

I thing that Bringing Darth Maul back to live was at least a poor thing to do.

Well the series did not focus only on literal battlefields, but also on the ongoing internal conflicts in the Republic and other sectors that helped Palpatine to push his agenda along.

Senators and their infighting, including murder.

The Mandalorians tearing each other apart and returning to their warrior past.

the Jedis further falling from their role of peacewatchers to generals and killers, the internal and external reaction to that change.

The growing dissatisfaction of the people and senators with the war.

While I consider the Padawan-arc and Droid-arc as about as useful and entertaining as watching grass grow others will like them. So i am not complaining if others are unhappy with the last two seasons.

But another season or two to show us other conflicts, other heroes and villains, less stereotypes, more moral dilemmas and such would have been nice.

No, Palpatine says at the end of that arc, "Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you. I have other uses for you..." Presumably we'd have found out what those other uses were and how they affected the lead up to the Empire.

I guess I'm more or less alone in digging the Maul-resurrection. Not that the first arc reintroducing him was that awesome, the final arc in Season 5 was really cool I think. I always felt it was an odd and poor plot device to have this awesome looking and dangerous character there and then just kill him off.

I'm a bit disappointed that Marvel is taking over the Star Wars comic book production again, even if my prejudice is based upon the horrendous work they did in the 80s ... I guess chances are they will put more effort into it now, but DH has done such a good job I think, for those of us that enjoy comic books that is (and laugh at people trying to make a distinction by calling the stuff they like for "graphic novels" ... pretentious nonsense), if you're not into it that's fair.
