So void state is awesome, but I would really love an iPhone app that works similar to it offline. (Like warroom for warmachine). Is there anything out there like it?
iOS list builder
I'd love that too, for iPhone or iPad or even Android. What ever the platform, the App writer would probably get hit with a cease and desist order, especially if there is any money involved. Websites fly under the radar easier than apps.
Even if it's free?
The problem is licensing. You can't put something in the store (even for free) if it references Star Wars and you don't have permission. I build apps for a living and Apple has a submission process that takes a week or two to get through, they actually check your app out to make sure its programmed solid enough, check copyrights, make sure it doesn't do anything devious like steal your info, etc.
I too do a ton of squad building on my phone. I had trouble with void state and found this one that works really well on my phone:
I use battlescribe on my GS3. It's not laid out as well as void state, but it gets the job done. My main use is fooling around on void state during the day, and then copying a few lists onto my phone to bring with me to my FLGS.
I would love to build a squad builder but it takes a ton of time to design and develop. If I was working on it full time every day it would take several months.
If pay a couple bucks for one if FFG were to make one. Their license allows for the Star Wars Dice app, I wonder if they'd be able to do a squad builder?

Why does it need to go in the store? I've never used iAnything, but with Android you can install apps from anywhere by just checking an option.
Battle Scribe
X-Wing files:
http://pearsall.co/xwing/index.bsi
Supports Android, iOS and PC. Files are updated by the community and you can use it for pretty much any game system. And it is free and the Pro version is cheap.

The problem is you will get a cease and desist letter and if you don't comply they sue you for damages, even on Android. Heck sometimes they skip the letter and just sue you. If George was still the man in charge you could probably get away with it, but with Disney at the helm it's unlikely you'd get far.
OK I agree with that, I thought the concern was with google or apple. App developers remain, as far as I know, free to distribute their apps outside of the stores -- though that doesn't allow them to bypass copyright as you say.

On Android you can distribute the app any way you see fit, the downside is there are massive security issues on Android because of this. iOS on the other hand you cannot install unless it's in the store, or you can install it if you have a jailbroken phone and can acquire the app, or you know who made it and then they can provision your device to accept the app directly from them.

This is actually pretty cool.
There are some weird overhead things because it's a general tool and not xwing specific. I would like to be able to see card text in an easier way than adding it to a squad first, maybe it's there and I just haven't found it yet.

You have to add it to the squad first and then go and review it, but it is a list building tool and not a rules repository. The fact that it has a full description of the items once you do add them to the list is pretty darn good. I use it to write lists for 40K as well as X-Wing.
Well, even if it's not an app, a web based squad builder that's Mobile browser friendly would be nice.
