Using a popular YouTube video as a guide, I washed my Millennium Falcon. I didn't want that dirty, ultra-gritty look that the artist used on his, so I used a much lighter wash on mine. The artist warned potential painters not to allow the wash to "pool" anywhere on the ship's fuselage. That was good advice because I accidentally allowed it to happen on mine.
Of course, this leaves a wash behind that looks like a stain, or a spilled drink, once it's dried. Because of the Falcon's shape, I tended to get pools on the top outside edges, and I don't like the way it looks. The overall effect of the dark wash looks awesome, but I need to do something about those stains.
I'm considering finding a grey color that matches the Falcon and painting and then washing these sections over again. But I'm scared I may screw it up even worse. A few friends have pointed out that the Falcon is essentially a bucket (echoing the sentiments of Leia in the movies). These friends say the fuselage is a jigsaw puzzle of multicolored panels. One section even has bullet holes stitched across it. Therefore, many say leave it alone. Just spray on a matte coat. That's it. They say these dried pools of wash don't stand out on the Falcon.
What do you think?
