Random Q#2. Do the bumps on the base count as the base itself for overlaps?

Do the bumps on the base count as the base itself for overlaps?

This came up in another thread and I wanted to draw players attention to this one issue to see if there is any official rule or not.

I know they are connected to the base but are they included in any calculation for ships overlapping one another???

According to the rules these bumps are ignored for measuring range and firing arc (see pg10, second last paragraph)

It isnt clear whether they are or not.

Overlapping other ships (core rules pg17)... If a ship... to physically overlap another ship's base (even partially), follow these steps...

Still is not clear what a partial overlap is in terms of the movement bumps on the base :(

Can anyone shed any light on this?

What rule do you play?

1) Yes, the movement bumps ARE considered part of the base for ship overlaps OR

2) No, the movement bumps DO NOT count for ship overlaps

they are part of the base and therefore are part of overlap.. how else are you supposed to position your ship if the bump is the only thing that's overlapping?

i know things can be tight, but if the ship doesn't sit down without nudging another ship, it's considered touching even if it is just the bumps

Just what I said in the other thread.

yeah cool. thanx RM. i saw that post. I just wanted to get a few other players onboard to clear this up as im sure there are others who will come across an overlap situation like this in a game.

I would say, yes they count as an overlap. The reasoning being that you can't place your ship properly if your bumps are overlapping their base or vice versa.

Even if you want to ignore the physical reality to try and play "balance the ships on top of the nubs", the fact that there's a special exception to exclude the guides when measuring range/arc also points pretty strongly to the guides being included as default.

There isn't anything which says they're included one way or another. But they're rather clearly part of the base, at least physically. Is anything not under the cardboard chit part of the base? Rules don't address it explicitly, but I expect few people would argue that they're not. Same logic should apply.

When I looked at the rules for the other thread I checked the wording to see if the firing section ever stated they were not part of the base, which would exclude them from firing. The rules carefully avoid saying any such thing leading me to agree with all of the above. Except for firing, they are part of the base.

Except for firing, they are part of the base.

good summary S7.

Q: Are a bomb token’s movement guides considered when measuring range or when a ship overlaps them?

A: Yes.

What's the size of those things anyway? Like 1mm?
