Question for you Imperial dudes (And dudettes)

By SpectreSix, in X-Wing

I've recently made the change over to the Imperial side, and I have to say, I love the TIE Interceptors. I'm going to try and run more than 3 (maybe 6?) and Howlrunner's becoming my Wedge for the Imperial side, but here is my question.

I have seen red TIE Interceptors and Interceptors with the bloodstripe, but are there any TIE Fighters that are red or have the bloodstripe?

I made three red TIE fighters. Not necessarily canon as far as I know, but they look cool and they'll be even better with the red squint when it comes out

according to the Wookie :ph34r: ::: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/181st_Imperial_Fighter_Wing

the 181st did fly the TIE/LN before the flew the TIE/In. Whether they used the stripe marking to identify themselves at the time is beyond me. But from my recollection even if they were 181st if they weren't from the Elite Squadron of the Fighter Wing they wouldn't get the "Stripes"

Fighter Wings tend to be about 3 Squadrons and are typically all the same fighter-type.

General Horton Salm's Defender Wing comprised of Champion, Warden, and Gaurdian Squadrons all flying Y-Wings.

But if you want to create a 181st Composite Fighter Wing. nothing is stopping you from painting strips or fleet/wing/squad markings on your fighters :D

If you do post picks!

The only TIE fighters I know of that have any markings were the Ecliptic Evaders which was led by Derek "Hobbie" Klivian and included Biggs Darklighter as well. They painted red rebel alliance logos on the sides of the fighters.

Also, on the 181st, that blood stripe is for pilots that have 10 kills or more.. not every one gets them.. you have to earn them.. like the red stripes on Han Solos pants.. Earned..

Keep track of your TIEs. If one of them manage to get 10 total kills without dying reward them with a paint job!

I've heard some 40K players do this... but those usually are the more intense kind... you know the guy in your group who has a First, Last Name for every single one of his guardsmen... followed my a BIO on their family history...

"Fighter wings tend to be about 3 squadrons and are typically the same fighter type"

In the Imperial Navy Fighter "wings" are broken down into six squadrons, where the fighter "groups" are broken down into three squadrons. And as for all of them being the same fighter type. Yes for the Empire, not so much for the Rebels. Reb groups have been known to fly mixed fighter units.

And no they did not designate the blood stripe status till after the group was transferred to Interceptors.

Welcome! Glad you could defect, these interceptors are really reeling in some former rebel {scum} pilots.

I was personally thinking of doing a bloodstripe TIE and I already have a red TIE. I don't see why they couldn't have a bloodstripe Ln as a replacement or temporary craft for the 181st, or just an exceptional pilot who prefers the Ln to an Interceptor (I've heard vision from the cockpit is tricky with the Interceptor as opposed to the more open Ln wing shape).

I am surprised by this, but there are some good pics of this ship.. looks pretty cool, and lends for an interesting concept to have Biggs and Hobbie in TIEs on the Rebel side.. lol

and some flavor text

Per Star Wars: Empire, the Ecliptic Evader TIE Fighters were used by Biggs Darklighter and his squadron to escape the Rand Ecliptic. The group returned to the Ecliptic after they ran too low on fuel and discovered that it had been taken over by a group of Rebels led by Hobbie Klivian. The TIE fighters were refitted with hyperdrives, Astromech sockets, and ejection seats for a mission to steal X-wings from Incom. Lastly, the Imperial fighters were emblazoned with the Rebel Alliance symbol in an act of total defiance. Biggs' pilots then ejected themselves from the TIE Fighters and allowed the astromech droids to pilot the ships on their own which in turn drew the Imperial fighters away from them so that they could gain entry in the Incom facility.

You could go crazy and recreate the Jasta 2 for the Empire.

In WW1, german fighter aces were allowed to paint their planes just like they want - or at least it was not forbidden to do so.

Thats the reason why von Richthofen had a red triplane and soon was known as the Red Baron.

true enough.. I have quite a few German WWI planes.. it's the side I usually play.. some might be tricky, but there are some that would be easy enough..

In my imagination there's room for a pink one. *Looking at you rodent mastermind"

Hmm.. All right, thanks guys.

Everyone knows that if you paint any ship red it'll go faster. I've heard that the only maneuvers on the Royal Guard Interceptor dial are forward green 5s.

Their was a couple squadrons that used gold and purple check marks on the edge of their solars, Alpha was one.

Elite or S.S. Imperial groups, wings, squadrons, and flights appear not to have to follow the standard doc. Just off the top of my head 181st, Alpha, Gamma, and I think Tau and Mu where mixed at one point or another.

Thanks for bringing that up sir ork. I like to have Purple Interceptors which give me luck and speed ;)

No they have a green 5 hard turn, green 5 bank turn, and a green 5 k-turn as well.

I did not know that. I will have to check that out.

The 181st operated TIE fighters until ~ the same time as the battle of Yavin. At the time, the 'best of the best' unit was Black Squadron, before...y'know...Death Star.

Fel licked the 181st into shape pretty quickly and they got early upgrades to the new interceptors. Prior to this, there might have been one or two bloodstriped TIE fighters.

If you want a nice touch, I must say I'm a massive fan of Rodent Mastermind's fighters:

I really, really love his shuttle too - I'd love to do some TIEs in much darker colours if I field a black squadron force all kitted out with stealth tech - some sort of Imperial Intelligence task force?
