Astromechs

Damage Repair:

An expensive R2 unit that can be discarded to nullify a hit would be interesting. Maybe an R5? Wedge comments that the R5 units make looking behind harder but "then again, you'll take any shots meant for the cockpit, won't you?" in the first X-wing book. So maybe:

R5 Astromech : May be discarded to remove a critical hit with "Pilot" in the title. [2pts]

This would function like the Determination talent card but be available to any ship with an astromech slot AND free up a talent for those who normally use Determination.

Similar astromechs that can be used to fix only 1 type of damage card would be neat. Imagine:

R 5-??: May be discarded to flip "Direct Hit" damage cards face down without being resolved. [5pts]

there already are Damage Repair astromechs.

R5-Astromech: in the X-Wing expansion

During the End phase, you may choose 1 of your faceup Damage cards with the Ship trait and flip it facedown.

It's partial "determination" for ship critis

R5-D8: in Y-Wing expansion (Porkin's named astromech)

Action: Roll 1 defense die. On an Evade or Focus result, discard 1 of your facedown Damage cards.

That card was made by someone on A Few Maneuvers board, iirc.. I think he has a card of Horn as well.. looked ok to me..

a-hem.... I made the Whistler card and then the picture was swapped by er.... brain not working.. and then I grabbed his version changed the flight suit from orange to green .. lol.

Ahh.. ok, I was just remembering that I saw it there last.. I think, someone has a link where that card is at... I was just looking at it the other night.. he updated it and had some more personality cards.. had Mauler and Backstabber I think..

He has some good cards there, I really dig the Han Solo and Biggs as imps.. haha..

My bad guys, I didn't mean to confuse anyone, I'll post where it came from next time. Yeah, it's from that tumblr. I really like the idea of some of those cards on there.

4 pts, Q9-X2 - when your ship is stressed, if you reveal a green maneuver, you may choose to change your dial to another green maneuver on your dial.

2pts, R8 Astromech - adds the "system upgrade" to your ship

2pts, R4 Astromech- increase your PS by 1. You may discard this card and pick 1 option: restore 1 shield, remove one stress token or perform a boost action. once this astromech is discarded your decrease your PS by 1.

this would be awesome. make all existing system upgrades useable by x-wings and y-wings? sign me up :)

This would be great, but 2pts might be a little cheap. It sure would nullify the predictability of a stressed X-Wing.

So DD on an X-wing with R2 generic... now triggers what? a 1 green turn with a stress?

Yes. Also, this is probably the reason we'll never see a ship with 2 Astromech slots, 'cause that would mean regenerating 2 shields from R2-D2 each turn....

Earlier I mentioned an Astromech Modification as:

Astromech Modification - "Hardware Upgrade" (4pts) - Add 1 Astromech to your upgrade bar. reduce cost of 1 Astromech by 4pts (0 minimum). requires Astromech. Applies to the Astromech of lower cost.

I know the above scenario would be possible (R2 + R2D2 + DD + Engine) if the above card existed or if a ship had 2 Astromechs 'default' existed. but the above would be a costly points investment 4+4+4+3 = 15pts on a single ship. or 12 if there was a ship with 2 Astromech Default.

Anyways thoughts?

Just this... no X-wing I've ever seen has 2 droids... but otherwise, I'm thinking a little over powered, kinda like a second EPS.. balance is thrown off with something like this.. IMO

yes no x-wing has 2 droids. but I think of it more as 1 Droid with it's hardware upgraded to act like 2 Droids.

Still seems over powered to me..

I think one would be nice to have.. although I don't think it would be 2-3 points or actually happen. That's paying close to double for EPTs which for the generic pilots comes "why not just pick a named pilot with an EPT" (yes i know the Y's have no EPT pilots).

Luke w/ PTL = 31pts

Red w/ EPT:A + PTL = 29pts

For 2pts you get +4PS and Luke's ability and your Astromech slot would still be available.

One the flip-side IF it was at Cost:0 then people would be stacking double EPT on pilots that already have EPTs.

Opportunist + Expose or Marksman

PTL + Squad Leader (everyone becomes Vader w/Leader)

PTL + anything really...

Even so 4+ points for an second EPT on those that can take it would be incredibly OP and on ships without access to EPTs normally would be very UP in comparison to the costs.

I would prefer IF there were new Astromechs that mimicked EPT's I would expect them to act in a similar fashion to:

K6 is like to FCS

D8 is similar to Chewie(crew)

F2 is like Stealth

all are roll and/or use action to work, they also are all unique.
