Price of Dark Heresy and Supplements.

By count_zero99uk, in Dark Heresy

Hi all,

I recently picked up Dark Heresy from my FLGS and really like it, i realised it was slightly more pricey that the WFRPG book but it seemed to be a bit more meaty and i like the setting so i thought i can afford this. However I was expecting that the supplements would be along the same price as the WFRPG ones but they are on average £10 more (i think that about $17 now). This is a lot for the books. Can anyone comment on the content of the suplements (in general terms) that shows why they are so much more expensive.

Thanks for your time.

Zero :)

If we're strictly talking about volume, the Inquisitor's Handbook has two times as many pages as the Old World Armoury, so a certain difference may be quite justified.

I kinda feel its you get get what you pay for - they seem to be excellent quality in terms of content and appearance so I don't mind paying a bit more.

Although these days I am always suprised at how bad some artwork can be in commercial products.................

Well, my corebook cost £40, but I'd sya it's well worth it, it contains a lore more than the WFRP book, so yeah. You get what you pay for.

Also DH is full colour and hardback, while many of the recent WFRP books are .... not.

SJE

You can also order the books on-line and save about 10%.

However I have been impressed with the content and feel of the books compared to many other systems.

Now, if only a company, any company really, could actually have a complete and useful index in a gaming book.

Well that answers my question. If your all happy with it then thats fine, looks like ill have to save up and get them, was just nice to get a book a week on the WFRP stuff.

Cheers

Yes, on the whole Dark Heresy supplements have tended to be very meaty.

Even Purge the Unclean has 3 adventures in it.

I'd have to say if you shop around you can usually find them cheap enough.

I first found the DH handbook for 58 something Euro. But I had out and was able to get it and the GM set. With the GM screen for 55 in total including delivery. So I think that it's depends where you buy. But that said DH is a bit more expensive. But the stuff is much more in dept. I wouold be willing to pay more for the books. Well if I had the money. I'm actually jugling over wether to get the Inquisitors hand book or creatures Anathema first.

If you are just a player, Inq Handbook. If you are a GM, while both are handy, Creatures may be the better investment.

Yeah I'm a GM. But the Inquisitor Handbook has (from what i have hear) lot sof new paths your guys can take for levelling and new weapons and armour. But I love the look of Creatures. Actually I think if I knew that Nids an Orks and the like are in Creatures I would get it. Can anyone tell me if they are cause those races would be difficult to replicate. Well the nids would be anyway.

The short answer to each point above is yes. Some new homeworlds and paths, as well as some backgrounds and the like to help spice up your average character in the Inq HB; along with tons of new gear and stuff. Orks and 'Nids to varying degrees in Creatures. Honestly, I would recommend the Inq HB if you are the type of GM I am; I enjoy giving my players options.

your probably right. The Inq handbook seems like the bette option. besides I already have enough planned to keep us going for a while and proably won't need the Creatures for now at least. Their characters are fairly new and we haven't played a campagin yet so the Inq HB will be perfect to keep them going till my exams are over. Sounds like the better option on all fronts.

Thanks for the advice Brother Praetus.

Sorry for the off topic, but when I first read the title of the thread, I thought it said, "Prince of Dark Heresy and Supplements". partido_risa.gif

But then I started thinking about the Movie Prince of Darkness and thought, "You know...that might make a fine little DH adventure."

Hmm.....

Being a 20 year fan of the 40k universe I purchased DH regardless of cost. For someone new though I would agree at looking at the cost also. Take the core rulebooks errata- 13 pages? Less if your counting just characters and power point changes and descriptions but still a lot for the core book.

I still think the product line is worth the price but I agree with the others that the Inquisitors Handbook is more usable. I have also purchased the DotDG and Creatures Anathema without buying any of the adventure books. For the price of an adventure book- no matter how nice- I would rather have a utility/tool book. Same price (about), alot more use. If your planning on just playing my vote is for the Core book and the Inquisitors Handbook. And I love this setting as much as anyone. Been buying overpriced figs and books since the lats eighties.

Only issue with this is that i like to support my local game shops.

Agreed. And, the benefit that so many seem to overlook is "I spent my money AND the book is already in my hands."

Only wish I had a local game store!
