A question for those who have (at least partially) played through Beyond the Rim - how long (estimated hours would be great) game time did the chapters/the campaign in total take?
Beyond the Rim - estimated game time
You're millage may vary, but after 6 3 hour long sessions I've we've managed to make it to "Imperial Contingencies" on page 70. Since there is a good chance we'll end up embroiled in some action scenes, it will probably take a full session to reach the end of part 2. If I had to estimate. The real meat of the adventure is Cholganna and we've spent 4 full sessions there already.
For reference, I ran Shadows of a Black Sun on Free RPG day with a group of 5 people who had never seen the system before in 2 1/2 hours, I ran Trouble Brewing in 1 1/2 sessions with character creation during taking half the first session, and I ran Debts to Pay from the GM Screen with 1 session.
My approach to Enter the Unknown was to focus heavily on Exploration based themes.
I allowed the players to mostly set their own pace, now that said, we still pretty much have hit all the major highlights of the adventure. The way the material in the adventure is worded, and the fact that there are no real maps to speak of, actually allow for a great deal of GM freedom. My players have hit every single major encounter in the story because I pieced the story together around them.
Edited by strongarm85I haven't gotten to Beyond the Rim, but I played Escape from Mos Schuuta with two different groups and in one case it took 4 3-hour sessions, in another case we finished it in about two hours.
Yep, my experience is similar. My players just made it to the survivor's retreat, after 2 sessions on the Wheel (for which I took shortcuts), and 4 sessions getting to and exploring Cholgana. We play in 2-3 hour sessions.
I'm expecting about 3 sessions each. 9 total. My sessions are 2-3 hours typically.
My group got through it with 2 sessions at the wheel, 3 sessions on the planet, 2 sessions for the final act. 2 - 3hrs per session.
I think we will need 5 to 6 sessions.
We took one session doing all the stuff at the Wheel.
We then did one session exploring Cholgana and meeting Harsol.
I think the next session will wrap things up on the planet and we should be ready to take off to Raxus Prime at the start of session 4 and probalby will play for 2 sessions there as well...
My sessions are 4-6 hours in length. Part I took one session (and a short one at that). Part II took three sessions. Part III took two sessions. In all cases, I added a few encounters and trimmed away some stuff that didn't suit my group, but my pacing on it seems pretty close to what others have said.
We just started it. Our first session was a bit more than 5 hours and we just blasted off from The Wheel. I'm a PC so I don't know if we missed anything or not, but I think we were pretty thorough investigating The Wheel. Our GM ended it saying we'll be starting next session doing the astrogation portion. I'm hoping we didn't screw up by killing the entire Yiyar gang.
With the game Im gming, We have had five 3-4 hour sessions. The first episode went pretty quick because the group was afraid to talk to anyone on the wheel. Cant blame them really. The planet too about 9.5 hours between 3 sessions. They did a lot of role playing and i stretched out the time in the refugee camp to give a sense of impatient waiting over a couple in-game days. The last episode is taking 2 sessions.
Many thanks, guys.
So far my group has gone through 4 sessions. Each one lasting around 2.5 hours and we are just now hitting the third part of the book in Raxus Prime.
But each group varies.
We are starting this module tomorrow. Our sessions are very long compared to everyone else it seems. We play every other Saturday starting anywhere around 1200 to 1400 and can go until 2300 to 0100. So with a full day of gaming I am wondering how far we will get. lol. Sometimes I am thinking about the game and the group and think we will burn through the whole adventure in one day, and sometimes I wonder if they will make it off the wheel. ![]()
I will post on Sunday our game times and how far we made it.
I will also post in the Gamemaster section under the BtR thread. If anyone would like to see my campaign, please follow the link below and let me know what you think, this will be the groups first full adventure as a whole group too.
Ciao.
