Krassis with HLC on Howlrunner with stealth. I roll 4 dice and with Focus/reroll I get 4 hits. Howl rolls and gets 4 evades with stealth still intact! It happens.

Thats what i call the MC Hammer 'can't touch this' roll.

StevenO, I figured it had to be something like that. Hence the hubris comment.

Blaming losses on dice is a bit unsportsmanlike, robbing them of credit for their skill and tactics in favor of saving face yourself. Yes, the dice occasionally roll so sour that even well-formulated strategy (which can compensate for bad dice) can't save you. But let your opponent have a clear victory every once in a while too.

I think this is situational, there are certainly lots of times when a person loses and can not accept responsibility for their mistakes or credit an oponent's skill. However with dice games there are absolutely cases where the rolls kill and in this game a particularly bad set of rolls can be the game.

If a person tells me once ghost the dice got them, I tend to believe them. If a person says bad dice often, then I tend to expect to hear it again the next time we play.

At least you killed some ships!

I recently played a 1v1, 300 point game where I didn't kill a single ship! I was mortified. Frackin dice.

Friday I was testing a new list, the Shuttle and 2 Tie Advanced, my friend was using a 4 Y-Wing with ion's list. It was not pretty for me...

What really set the game up for a massive defeat on my part, was when he managed to get 6 hits with 3 Y-Wings at range 3.

There certainly are times you can "blame" a game's random elements for a loss and be COMPLETELY justified. I think I've even played a few of those with some d20 based games. When you only need to hit one roll to win and have an 80%+ chance of hitting that roll but then see it go against you eight or so times before you lose it's kind of hard to blame the strategy. We may not like them when they go against us but there are times that 1:1,000,000 shots actually happen.

Ya I have had one bad beat down recently, I ran 2 BH with HLC, omicron shuttle. I did I think 3 damage to his squad, he did 30, in 4 turns. He was running 2 Bwings, an xwing and a HWK. He rolled almost all hits every time. And I rolled all Misses
