about declaring defenders

By Knaak, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Hi,

As you know, if any capital zone is burning, the opponent can attack this zone. However, in battlefield phase, can the player who is defending declare no defenders even if he has units in this zone to avoid taking damage? I mean, can i declare no defenders even if I have units?

Yes.

i dont get that. So if a zone is on fire your opponent can still attack that zone? if so and he declares attackers and distributes damage to units, if you dont defend, your units recieve no damage? does that mean the attack by opponent was for nothing? i thought once damage was assigned the units took that damage. Maybe i dont understand the situation, i am new to this game anyway. Thanks

There are certain situations which tend to be profitable when you're attacking burning zone - triggering some actions for example. (Doom seeker, Blood Dragon Knight etc.) might be more benefitial then attacking "healthy" zone instead.

And yes, if you don't defend there's noone to take the damage upon himself.

If I did this to a zone that wasnt on fire and I wanted to keep a unit alive would all the damage just be mitigated to the zone?

If you declare no defenders all the damage is assigned to the attacked zone. Units in that zone will take no damage.
