where to begin for fleetbuilding

By Thecactuar, in X-Wing

I'm very new to the game as of Christmas but the few times i've played i loved it and really want to get into the more into the game.

My problem is I think I have too much to really know where to start. I'd like to start making some 100 point builds that aren't terrible. Does anyone have any suggested fleets for me to try out to start figuring things out a bit.

I would assume I'd be able to make some decent Falcon with wingmen or Firespray with wingmen. Most of the builds i've seen require multiples of the same ships(awings, bwings) the only ships I currently have multiples of are 5 ties and 3 xwings.

I have the following ships

5 - TIE

1 - Advanced

1 - Bomber

1 - Interceptor

1 - Firespray

3 - Xwing

1 - Ywing

1 - Bwing

1 - Awing

1 - HWK

1 - Falcon

You have a great selection of ships. I really suggest that you fly what you like and suits your taste.

You have more than enough ships to build highly competitive lists.

Use the Voidstate squad builder and play around.

I found that using other peoples lists didn't work for me and I got comfortable with just flying stuff tht suited my style.

EMPIRE

squad#1

vader/swarm tactics/concussion missiles

howlrunner/swarm tactics

4x academy pilot

REBEL

squad#1

Han/Gunner/Chewbacca/title/marksmanship

2x rookie pilot

Squad#2

Wedge/Push the Limit/R2 Astromech

Luke/Draw Their Fire/R2D2

Biggs/Stealth Device/R2F2

There are loads more possibilities - depends what sort of ships u prefer flying.

Englishpete is right when he says play around and see what u like, dont be fooled into thinking more experienced players know all the best squads - may players tend to stcik to one faction most of the time and this gives them a somewhat skewed view of what they think is best to play imo.

Hello,

Just to help you I build The_Brown_Bomber proposals to the Squadrons Generators.

You can reload them in it by using the permalinks below and by using the transfert feature you will be able to tweak them.

EMPIRE

squad#1 (Take care it seems to reach 103 points)

REBEL

squad#1 (Take care it seems to reach 101 points)

Squad#2 (97 points, so could add a modification to Wedge or Luke)

I normally start with a single interaction I want to exploit, then thinking about what else I can add to the list to fill it out.

For instance, Kyle Garven Dutch in the Rebels (HWK + X-Wing Exp + Y-Wing) gives you 3 solid 6-point pilots with astonishing ability interactions. The three of them, naked, costs 70 points. 30 points more, and you have yourself a 100 point fleet.

How to spend that 30 points? Well, first I'd look for weaknesses in the ships (HWK's pitiful damage is offset by a Turret of some sort), what fits with the fleet's strengths (Moldy Crow title and Recon Specialist in the HWK, R5-K6 in the Y, et c.), and what benefits most from those strengths (Everyone attacks Focused AND Target Locked? Gimme some Adv. Proton Torps, please!)

oops my bad. see what happens when u build from memory and dont use an official squadbuilder - easy enough to tweek these lists tho - try this.

EMIPRE Sqd#1 minus one concussion missiles (4pts) =99pts

REBEL Sqd#1 minus one title card (1pt) =100pts

REBEL Sqd#2 minus R2F2/stealth device (6pts) PLUS shield upgrade (Biggs/4pts) PLUS shield upgrade (Luke/4pts) =99pts

I have done well with 1 y and three x's. I like salm and three rookies. Give the y an ion turret and an r2 for stress reduction. That leaves 5 points for ordinance or additional astromechs. Salm can separate from his charges to swan around the back using the ion blasts to line up targets for the xwings.
