Droids. Can they be upgraded?

By druudruu, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

There is a mechanic in the group I run and he wanted to get some droids and do some upgrades to them to make them a little better. I was thinking that he would have to spend credits to get the parts and then do mechanic and computer checks.

Anyone else have this come up in their groups and how have you went about it.

Upgrading Droids is generally accomplished by buying gear that is then built into the Droid. In some cases, Attachments and Mods can be made to such built-in gear to further upgrade the Droid.

Right now, the only options for "upgrades" are to install cybernetics or as HappyDaze noted purchasing items and noting them as being built into the droid as per the sidebar on page 47. But unless there's something I overlooked, there's no rules in regards to skill checks being required to install such items.

It's possible that a future supplement (such as a career splatbook for Technicians) might offer more options for droid modification, but that's purely speculative.

After the lack of additional rules for exploring in Enter the Unknown, I wouldn't hold my breath for them though.

It sure would be nice to have a crafting system though.
