This really sums it up, the rule of -1 PF per shot missed on full auto was an awful rule. And showed that the person was trying to balance the broken full auto rules but did it in such a way that he over-compensated and ended up making them useless.

A houserule should fix an imbalance, but shouldn't try to upset the balance in the game. By seeing "bad" ones we can learn from that and try to do minimal changes for the maximum effect without disruption (if a houserule slows down the game, odds are, it needs work).

Your deleted houserule was "garbage" to you, but it could have helped others realize the nuances of that fine balance.

Seeing a flawed example of something is useful for education as a perfect example, one alone isn't enough.

If you no longer find your rule worthwhile, strike it out, talk about your mistakes. Help others learn from your mistakes and possibly even give feedback to improve it. The experience of dealing with you changes from the confrontational "knock over the table if you are losing" to one of working together to improve this game we all enjoy.

If I recall correctly, he was discussing a rule to make it easier to dodge thrown weapons or weapons like bows and arrows, such as adding a natural bonus to dodge rolls made against such weapons (on account of them travelling slower than bullets, which Acolytes can also avoid).

Well, acolytes can learn to knock aside arrows and other "primitive" projectiles, something like that could be workable. Very specialist and a bit of bloat in some ways, but a cool thing for games that take place on more primitive planets

On its own something like a "Slow Missile: +10 Dodge Modifier" Weapon Special Quality doesn't really make sense. Realism-wise even thrown missiles travel so fast that you're not reacting to the missile itself, you're reacting to where you think the attacker is throwing it. Even in a Tennis match you're reacting more to where you think your opponent is hitting the ball, than to the ball itself.

To me that makes it a genre thingy. Basically, Karate Kid. And while there's nothing particularly wrong or right about adding Karate Kid to the kitchen sink that is 40K, there's nothing in DH's more specific Techno-Horror Noir to hang it on. Meaning that for such a house rule to make sense, it has to be part of a larger set of rules that support Karate Kit stuff.

Our group actually has a vague plan to try to tackle this, at some uncertain point in the future. Primarily because we've re-written the DH2.3 beta in such a way that it now actually has combat disciplines, of sorts. But we're unlikely to try to do anything with unarmed combat until one of the players wants to play an unarmed combat specialist, and who knows when/if that will happen. I'll tr to keep this topic in mind, though, if it does.
