Heresies top 100 (1000+?)

By gusto2, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Hello everyone. I find it hard sometimes to formulate exactly for my players what constitutes heresy in the Imperium. Wouldn't it be nice if we could manage to create a useful list of heresies as a reference during games? I therefore ask you to post examples of heresies that you can come up with. Please try to formulate serious (possibly darkly humorous partido_risa.gif ) posts so that the list can be a useful reference for GMs and players! What is heretical of course depends on who you ask and at what point in time but try to list the more enduring heresies.

1. Denouncing the God Emperor as Humanitys sole Divinity and Ruler of Mankind should be in the top ten heresies.

2: Failing to produce an aqualia symbol in an unscheduled piety test on the street by ecclesiarchs.

Disagreement in matters of faith with the official teachings of the imperial creed (as perceived by the ministorum body of your world) is heresy

interfering with the planetary tithe

Thinking, Talking about, planing or participating in hindering or overthrowing any of the imperial adepta

-- Damage and/or destruction of Imperial property. Including, but not limited to, structures, vehicles, weapons, ammunition, personnel and any and all other items that may be considered property of the Imperium of Man.

My thoughts on its primary use... Arbites break up a bar fight involving an Imperial Guard unit and civilians. The Arbites could charge all non guard involved in the bar fight with this and force them all into a penal unit.

Engaging in forbidden research, as dictated by the teachings of the Omnissiah. (Specific to Tech-Priests, for the most part.)

Communicating, co-habiting, doing business with, or otherwise consorting with Xenos. Possessing equipment manufactured by Xenos (which may include forgotten Human technology, simply because people don't know any better).

Possessing tracts or paraphenalia from any religious doctrine that is not part of the Imperial Creed.

Questioning the Ecclesiarchy openly.

Manipulating the power of the Warp without Imperial Sanction. Aiding and abetting anyone who manipulates the Warp without Imperial Sanction.

  • Declaration of the God-Emperor to be no more than a powerfully psychic human being, inhumanely kept alive (if you could truely call it that) by an antiquated (but incredibly advanced by our standards I imagine) life support machine.
  • Worship of the False God of Progress

  • Be a Witch/Mutant/Alien/Unsanctioned Psyker
  • Be friends with a Witch/Mutant/Alien/Unsanctioned Psyker
  • Know a Witch/Mutant/Alien/Unsanctioned Psyker
  • Walk past a Witch/Mutant/Alien/Unsanctioned Psyker in the street
  • Think about a Witch/Mutant/Alien/Unsanctioned Psyker

(Addendum to the above, only to be considered Heresy if you do not burn the Witch/Mutant/Alien/Unsanctioned Psyker with immediate effect, especially if you are the Witch/Mutant/Alien/Unsanctioned Psyker)

Handing a Eldar that is your Inquisitional Cell's contact on Endrite a lost/found Soulstone.

Wearing an Eldar helmet that allows you to understand and speak in Eldar

Being instructed by an Inquisitor to follow an Eldar's lead, not touch Eldar things, and still destroy Orks.

Yeah, my group's cell are a bunch of heretics. That's why my Cleric had to leave. She tried burning the Eldar, Egg, and Player wearing the helmet; but due to GM's Deus Machina she just left the party to join the Sisterhood, and will later come back as an NPC to cleanse the entire Cell and Inquisitor. My new character is an untouchable Feral Warrior born on the planet Endrite. My fellowship score is like 08.

Blasphemous uses of an Emperor's Tarot, such as being used for card games. And/or using the Emperor's Tarot if you are a nonsanctioned psyker for scrying purposes as youare tainting a holy item with Warp taint.

What about blaspheming or just speaking poorly of saints?

To denounce the Emperor and then allying with the Despoiler to wage war on your fellow man in the attempt to sieze Holy Terra and burn it to ashes...

Or for accidentally hitting the toiletring when you are pissing, its all a matter of who wittnessed, how high his/her position is, and offcourse what mood he/she is in=)

As I explained to the new tech priest in the group, heresy is doing repairs on an ancient STC vehicle which involves a lot of knuckle ******, skin tearing misery and finding some heretic has decided to swap the 1inch nuts and bolts down there with something from the evil and ancient dark past called 'the metric system'*

You're 150,000 light years from anyone with a holy shifting spanner for the specific purpose of removing unsanctioned bolts, there is the distinct possibility that if you dont get it fixed, you're all completely f&*#!d and going to die. Make no mistake... heresy kills!

*While the metric system made measurement understandable to the common man, it let too many riff-raff into the trade and the somewhat completely illogical Imperial system kept in place to keep them out once and for all.

Misunderstanding, misquoting, or misinterpreting any passage from the Creed.

Failing to identify Holy Terra on a map of the Imperium.

Wasting a Priest's time during confession.

Not spitting derisively in the direction of the Eye of Terror after any mention of Chaos, The Despoiler, Horus, or any other Ruinous Power.

Painting your vehicle red so as to increase it's maximum velocity. (alien tech is alien tech)

Cooperating with deamons

Binding deamons to a host

Talking to a deamon (depending who you are)

Assisting in any of the above

Being guilty, either through belief, association or action, of dealing with forbidden things: xenos, daemons, and religious deviancy.

Heresy 101

The term “heresy” refers to a “corruption of dogma”. Those accused of heresy by the Inquisition have been charged with holding beliefs or engaging in practices counter to the prevailing doctrines of the Ecclesiarchy and the laws of the Imperium. Xenos, daemons and those that associate with them in any non-violent way are heretics, as are all mutants and many psykers. Within the Imperium, there is no separation between church and state. Belief in the God-Emperor is integral to the Imperial system of government. Those that rebel against the Imperium for any reason are therefore also deemed heretics. The only rebellions in Imperial history that have ever been successful in the long term have all involved groups who managed to overthrow their planetary governments while constantly making it clear to their local Imperial forces that they were still loyal to the Imperium.

There are many groups affiliated with the Imperium, including the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Navis Nobilite, the Adeptus Astartes and even the Inquisition itself, who have members that could accurately be accused of heresy by anyone who faithfully follows one of the many variations of the Imperial Creed. This makes for interesting times.

Chatting up a Daemonette, do not do on pain of death.

Tell your Inquisitor you committed said heresy, that is a heresy of stupidity.

TS, There is seperation between Church and State. Page 62, Dark Heresy states," That the Adeptus Ministorum or Ecclesiarchy tends to the religious needs of the Imperium. It is completely seperate from the Adeptus Terra, concerned with looking after mankinds spiritual needs rather than maintaining a galaxy spanning empire. On another note some Heresy subjects that are in fact Heresy are the Adeptus Mechanicus themselves but tolererated because of their ability to fix mechanical applications within the worlds of the Empire. Some other concerns are Dark Pacts, Corruption,Insanity,Malignancys and mentioned before mutations. I would go as far as saying mental disorders maybe view as heresy. It is after all stigmatizing to people with mental disorders as they may be viewed tainted.
