Tell me about your Base of Operations

By DanteRotterdam, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

What is the base of operation of your party? What resources does it provide how fleshed out is it? Does it have recurring NPC's?

The party I GM for has chosen The Wheel as their base and hire a small cargo bay there. They are sleeping on the ship now but are thinking of taking up permanent residence in an appartment on the wheel. Being that it is huge The Wheel can supply almost evrything the party is after and I use the NPC's from Beyond the Rim as the ones they interact with on a regular bases.

Looking forward to hear what your parties have at their disposal!

My players stormed an abandoned mining station that had been carved out of an asteroid and took out the pirates who were scavenging on it.

Since then they've hired on a security manager, comms/operations verpine technician, a smuggler/informant/spy (Thweek from the Long Arm of the Hutt adventure), as well as about 8 other station crew including some engineers/techs, medical techs and security agents, plus a couple of losers who help clean and cook and such. Unfortunately these guys + a smuggling crew with a large freighter they use to haul their illicit cargo is costing them about 12,000 credits a month, so their profit margin is pretty tight these days.

They've fixed the power and gravity generators on the station and added in a medical wing with a bacta tank, but just recently they were attacked by the same pirate gang who want the station back, and realized they need to spend lots of money on defensive upgrades for the station.

They now have 3 starfighters (1 naboo ship from the forum stats, 1 z-95 headhunter and 1 of the long range scoutmasters) for defense but the station itself has nothing.

They're now talking about retrofitting the mining and refinery sections of the station to be able to handle ryll and other illegal drugs, since that's the base of their empire.

Wow, pretty well thought out dude!!!

Haha thanks - the whole thing stemmed from a bunch of random plot hooks I dangled in front of them like 6 months ago, and when they heard 'explore abandoned base' they immediately though (WE GET A BASE!). Which is obvious for them but I hadn't even thought about it.

Since then they've put a lot of work into it and it works well - this way they have an actual base and the YT-1300 they use as a roaming base.

My crew took a group Obligation for debt to a Hutt to have a loan to own a cantina in Anchorhead. The base level is a normal cantina with some private booths up on a top floor and the basement is their quarters with living space and each has a small room.

They have a Jawa and a Barabel that works there for them. Right now it isnt making them any money and they still owe like 50k to pay off the debt, which is usually where a share of their adventuring money goes to.

Our characters are mostly in the wild, but home is a small farm until we save enough for a ship. Then we are going to haul goods and get off this planet!

Little update from last night's session - they cleared out the station of pirates (who had left a bomb in the pirates YV-470 frigate that needed to be defused) and then had a planning session with their security chief. They realized they needed more crew, potentially 1 or 2 that can fly starfighters, and they need to buy weapons and a shield generator for the station. In the meantime they're keeping 2 of the starfighters as a patrol and are installing the concussion missile launcher from the YV-470 into the station itself, which should at least keep an enemy ship from landing on the station without a fight.

Their first question to their smuggler/spy crew member was 'is there anyone in a nearby sector that has a shield of the size we need?' I told them there were a number of bases but they may not want to sell it, they'd have to go through underworld connections, when they interrupted me - 'no no, we want to steal their shield generator'.

So now their well thought out plan is to steal a shield generator from a ground or space station that's important and armed enough to have military-grade shielding.

They also are planning to buy weapons from nearby Soccoro, but I plan on dipping them into 'beyond the rim' and introducing them to the cybernetics/weapons manufacturers there, so maybe they can get a deal....
