Well if it bothers you this much house rule it to fit what you think it should be. That's what I would do.

I'm starting to wonder that too. Recently was infiltrating an Imperial freighter in perfect Imperial Naval Intelligence LT's uniform, with perfect ID (that I've used all over the galaxy with no problems), with a code cylinder from the ship (implying I'm joining it), with a Storm Trooper in armor backing me, and we walk up to the first officer and she's immediately suspicious. So we give up our guns , and get escorted to the bridge. And the captain has opened the arms locker and all these nervous looking consolehuggers are aiming pistols at us . (I'm WTF?? I know my character can't deceive his way out of a paper bag, but this is ridiculous.)

Maybe these idiots don't understand that 'slightly long hair' means undercover ! Dunces.
