Imperial Aces update

By Patriarch, in X-Wing

Tetran Cowall's ability is incredible. A 1 K-Turn? And you get to choose the speed of your K-Turn when you reveal your dial? Oh, yes please.

Gonna pick 2 boxes up right when they become available!

Yes, all four pilots will be fun to fly. Imperial Aces is turning into a must have for any imperial player. And, with the Push The Limit cards, these players won't need near as many Rebel expansions to get where they want.

Tetran + adrenaline rush + boost = 180 turn on the spot, no stress.

I'm definitely going to pick up two of these. I figured I'll try running all four of these pilots together. Gives me 3 points to play with for EPTs. The obvious choice is to give Carnor Jax PTL, but I'm tempted to give Tetran Veteran Instincts and Carnor Jax Elusiveness.

I have one pre-ordered, but hearing this almost demands i increase my order to 2 instead.

I have one pre-ordered too. But I don't see a huge value in a 2nd Imp Ace pack... I already have 4 Interceptors, and most of the cards from Imp Aces will be unique as far as I know. So I'm not seeing much value in a 2nd set.

Stuff like Hull upgrade and targeting computer perhaps. but those will only be so useful. In the end a taste matter.

I like Tetran Cowall. Neat where they got him. Both he an Lorrir will be fun to fly. Adrenaline Rush on Cowall is going to be fun. Even ignoring the beastly 1 K-turn, Cowall's ability is a god send for K-turns. Now you don't have to worry as much about a collision.

And while a second set doesn't have much value (I think the extra Hull/Targetting Computer/Opportunists will be somewhat helpful), I'm mainly getting a second set for the minis. I just have to prevent any OCD tendencies that I don't need 3 of the repainted ships...

FFG have really been impressive with the ability on these 181st pilots. Truly outstanding.

I have preordered 2 sets, but will be probably want to trade the red ships themselves for normal ones.

Edit: not sure about Carnor's ability though, that sounds overpowered, being able to shut down both actions and token use.

Keep in mind, Carnor Jax has to be in the mix to get his ability. Interceptors are a bit fragile, and any ship at Range 2 will be gunning for him.

That's true; he's a high risk/high reward pilot.

the way the card reads sounds overpowered. But my understanding of the way it is written is to avoid future FAQing about ships that can transfer Focus and Evade tokens and bank/save tokens.

It's too late for me, my OCD kicked in right away after months of seeing everyone's cool repaints before this expansion was announced. I pre-ordered three as soon as they were available online.

My plan is to put blood stripes on my existing Interceptors to match the one from the pack. About the only thing I fly are either named or Saber Squad, which have the blood stripe on the card art, so I'm guessing they're supposed to be 181st.

So I plan on giving at least 3 of my existing int's blood stripes.

I'll probably end up getting two sets (one for sure), but it depends on how useful the upgrades are. I have been getting along just fine with 2 basic Interceptors, and I knew Imperial Aces was on the way when I started collecting them so there was no temptation to stock up. I feel bad for folks who were surprised by Imperial Aces after picking up several basic Ints, and it's made me cautious about over-buying ships in the future.

I think bloodstripes on Interceptors are aesthetic mistakes and will be repainting those to be basic Interceptors. Maybe we should trade? :)

Exactly and also you can still target lock his ass. But It does gives you a great chance versus Tie swarms, and other lists using close formations.

3 Hull for 26pts minimum and becomes useful in range one... I dunno, pretty strong but hardly feels OP to me.

IMO, Turr still has the best interceptor ability in my book.

I might want to crack out this some time:

Turr+ PTL

Lorrir

Cowall + AR

Omicron + Vader

Omicron does full suicide for max damage early game. And the interceptors become nuts on 1v1 dogfights.

Ok, pure Awesome. I want Ace's now!

Looks like they've also been moved to 'At the Printer' status.

Arg, been playing with Sabers recently, and they are probably the most fun to fly. These new pilots need to get here ASAP! I'm getting 1 box, but I'm looking for excuses to not buy another :P

Two or three of these sets are a must, I think...

I just noticed something, according to the preview Lorr's ability "triples" his barrel roll options, so that means you can position the template so that he can curve back and outwards instead of just forward and inwards. That is insane as far as options go. He has an insane amount of facing options if I read that right.

Can't wait..

You read it right, I too thought this was very cool.
