Online-League

By Gast265751, in Battlelore

Hi Battler,

I repeat my question from this post :

Who is interested in an international Battlelore-Online-League? First season could start at may on worldofbattlelore.de (english supported if needed).

While I often joke about my only german language experience comes from listening to Einstruzende Neubatuen ( english version of the link here ), I am perfectly comfortable playing with those who only speak german. Not because I can speak a lick of it mind you (though I would certainly pick some up as a result happy.gif ), but as long as I'm playing with those familiar with the game, having the common language of BattleLore should get us through. Playing with the German version of the game would be no problem whatsoever. I'm more concerned that german only speakers would find it a drag to have to play with me gui%C3%B1o.gif

I'm just looking for any avenue that allows me to play some more BattleLore. I was hoping that FFG would (perhaps still will?) pick up on DoW's vision of having a strong online presence that included a playable version of the game accompanied by some sort of structure that encourages participation (be that a league or just a looser way of connecting with other players). Perhaps I don't understand how much is involved with such an endeavour, but I see that as mostly a problem of "want" not "can't".

Great! Here it is - thanks Damon!

Well, I think, most of the german language players are also speaking english. The language shouldn't be that bar.
And we played a longtime the english version of Vassal.

It's just a question of if there is a lively interesst in a worldwide BL-league or not? If there will be just three or four players, it could be to much work for a little league-community...

Preparing the important sites of WoB in two languaged sites.
Preparing the league website.
Keep it running... als these things...

Exactly - if I'm the only one interested (or only a couple of others, etc), keeping it in one language and just using the WoB site to arrange things wouldn't be a deterrent to me :)

Anybody feel like posting this on BGG?

Hi Toddrew,

yes sure, ask at BGG - bitte :-)

Yes, count me in for an International BL Leauge. I only know English....

Count me in - sadly only know English as well.

Are there any more Battler interested in a new BL-Online-League? We prefer a european league system (all vs. all; best wins; no play-offs) with 1 game in two weeks (we all are pinched for time). So if we play with 10 players the league will take ca. 36 weeks.

Though I would enjoy the format you are suggesting (hey, anything that leads to lots of play, I'm all for gran_risa.gif ), but perhaps a model like the one that the C&C:Ancients Vassal League uses, would better facilitate players; mixing smaller "mini-tournaments" with larger "open tournaments" allows for players to join in frequently and only commit to several weeks instead of several months (unless I misunderstand your suggestion - basically 4 weeks to complete a set of games with another player)?

If it were to be set the way you put forth, I would suggest that the time frame for the set of games between any two players be two weeks, rather than two weeks for each of the two games to be played.

Thanks again for getting this started!

Maybe you're right. In the moment we play a little tournament with a epic scenario, thats too long. If we choose a shorter scenario, most of us will play directly the two games against one player. But that should not a rule.

I can't believe, that the most of us have enough time for more than 1 game/week. We not only want the Hardcore-Vassal-Gamer.

I thought, if we are not more then 10 players it would enough to play 1 game/2 weeks. But maybe it's better to play a game/week. Sure, that will make it easier for new player to join the league.

How would you start a new online-league?

Hi there,

I'm up for the league too (I'm another in the the speaking english only camp).

There's already a head start to be had by using the existing yahoo group that Don (Yangtze) started . A tournament-style exercise using the Scottish Wars scenarios was just recently completed through it, hosted by WoB'er Bayernkini. Using the messaging on that site along with some regularly scheduled tournaments/events would generate enough interest to hopefully sustain a "league" without too much trouble from those interested in keeping it going. Piggy-backing off of what is already being done through the CCA yahoo site would mean that most of the heavy lifting has already been done :)

If there's excitement about starting from scratch, or using the League to grow WoB, I would be all for that as well. I don't much care how it is done, just that people have fun and it encourages participation.
