New Descent RPG Expansion!

By TheSexyWitchKing, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hot off the PDF presses, I'd like to present to you Descent the RPG , an add-on expansion book (booklet really) that introduces new rules which will allow you to play Descent as a rules light roleplaying game.

I should probably also include a word of caution here, this is just a little 11 page book which includes the basic rules you need to play Descent as a roleplaying game. It may not be what you would write if you wrote a Descent RPG, but you didn't write a Descent RPG so check this one out instead!

It's meant to play much like a session of D&D 4th Edition (assuming your games go like mine), where you roleplay your characters, do a few skill checks, and then you move onto that sweet, sweet tabletop battle action using the well-defined rules already found in Descent. It reads quickly and concisely, there are really only three pages of game rules, then a guide to creating your own characters, a bestiary to help GMs create NPCs, and finally an overview of some famous places in the Runebound world. And yet it's all you need to get started.

Hope you enjoy it!

Descent the RPG

Impressive work, and a solid basis for those who want more RPG in their Descent. Thank you for sharing it with us. =)

You may be interested in checking out my "Runiverse Fluff" document over on BGG. I've done what I can to collect all the lore about Terrinoth that has been published through flavour text on cards and in rulebooks for the various games in the setting. (I'm a couple of expansions behind on D2E, but I'm working on it.) =P

Thank you for saying so. Also thanks for the link, that should be very useful. I believe I came across a post by you from a few years ago linking to a Runebound timeline, but the link had gone dead by now, and I completely missed finding this on BGG, so I'm glad to get it.

nice but what if you dont want to join scribd

I love your formatting and layout! How did you do it??!! Great work, and to be honest, I hope to be able to duplicate it for a variant myself and another fan are coordinating on over at Boardgame Geek that bring similar RPG Aspects to the game, just to give it a little more flavor. Fans of Warhammer Quest will immediately notice the blatant rip-offs/similarities. Please feel free to offer ant critique!!

that being said, nice work and I hope you play test and continue to expand it.

Steve-O, you are resident professor of Terrinoth, can you provide a link to your thread?

I dunno, I've been enjoying reading free stuff on there for so long I don't remember what life was like before it. This is version 0.1 and I thought I might get one revision in after some more playing/proofreading before I plastered it all over the internet.

The page elements they use in their Descent books are individually modifiable if you open the PDFs of them in Adobe Illustrator. So I borrowed some in the name of the advancement of humanity to make my book.

It seems like you've got a good start going. Some extra Warhammer Quest style-tables would probably go well with the new Warhammer Quest style expansion everyone has been talking about. If I recall correctly Necromunda and Mordheim also had some tables and roleplay-ish rules that might give you ideas. If you have the books.

Steve-O, is this database updated with the content from Jarvis? The FFG Novel set in Terrinoth? I look at my Rune Age cards and feel like there's SO much content missing. Like FFG is holding a ton of stuff back for something down the line. So much artwork and lore with huge gaps.

No, it is not. I wasn't actually aware that FFG had published a novel in Terrinoth. I'll have to look into that.

It's also missing content from LoR because I haven't found the money to get that expansion yet.

Battle Lore 2.0 (from what I can tell) doesn't have much fluff to contribute beyond the blurbs online.

Edit: Having read what I can about this "Jarvis" novel here on FFG's website, I don't believe it is set in Terrinoth at all. None of the city names sound familiar, and one of the blurbs mentions it being set in "the world of Ledu," which is not a name that has been given to Terrinoth before. If this novel was supposed to be part of the Terrinoth setting, I would have expected FFG to promote it as such in the previews they posted, but they don't say anything like that.

The only connection I see is that the author of this novel is also an artist who did the artwork for various Descent boxes, but that doesn't mean his novel is set in the same universe. Am I missing something?

No, I never noticed that before? Thanks for pointing that out, I will definitely not be buying the book now! Thanks for saving me money!

In fairness, I'm not saying it's a bad book. It seems to have good reviews from the like of Tracy Hickman (Dragonlance.)

I may yet buy it myself. I'm just saying it doesn't look like it's Terrinoth.

Is there another download besides scribed?

Keep in mind that the majority of this thread was from over two years ago. The OP (SexyWitchKing) has made exactly 3 posts in these forums, all of which are here in this thread.

I wouldn't hold my breath on a response. :P

Steve-O is back! It's been a while since I've seen you post! But then again, I haven't been reviewing as much lately...

I never really went anywhere :)

I've just been lurking more often than not lately :P

Would anyone else be willing to take a whirl making something like this? I might in the next couple of months if nothing happens.
