NEW X-WING Models in 2014 (NEWS 1q 2014)

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

I have been STAR BLAZERS Crazy recently, but I still love STAR WARS too. So while I put together a nice YAMATO 2199 Nwes article this week, I also of course wrote a little STAR WARS News article.

I do not think many of you have seen the new X-WING terrain yet...

:)

Nicely done.. and the terrain would be nice too.. unfortunately they will probably price it so it is not practical.. I'd want two as i have a scenario that uses 2 ION cannons such as those.. and I want to build a DS trench for that 'trench run fun'.. but if this is more than.. 20 to 30 bucks.. really not worth it.

Well I am not in love with $30 for a few very nice asteroids either...so we will have to wait and see my freind. GF9 are kinda ...well...yeah...but I may get one of each kit just becuase.

They are cool models.

:)

they are, and i would probably get a set.. I can figure out a way to make the rest work, I'm sure

Nice write up Joe Boss...

I was going to get turrets from Shapeways to go with the GF9 Space Station mat, but now I think I'll buy a couple of their kits instead.

I think the main difference in the Kenner Blockade Runner and FFG's CR-90 model is the over all "bulky-ness" of the Kenner model's engine section; The FFG model appears to have a higher quality detail and how it appears to be trimmed out in the same quality as other X-Wing miniatures FFG has produced.

Sure you can. I think these will be about $35...we will have to save out toy money up.

:)

I just can not make myself love Shapeways...I know some of the guys swear by them, but EVERY picture I have seen has that fuzz, and I do not feel that I should have to resculpt the model just to clean it up. I am with you Bro, I can pay a little more and get a good kit, and be very happy about it.

;)

Thanks guy!

You just found myself a new background picture :D

**** I love that Blockade Runner :D

Cant wait to play with it!

Welcome!

:)

I think my good ole beloved Kenner Bolckster is going to become a beat up and repainted Pirate Critter at some point in 2014...

nice write-up. I need to save your blogsite to my smartphone homepage.

Joe Boss, the shapeways stuff is only fuzzy in the White strong flexible material, when I get planes or ships with detail I always get ultra detail, it's a much better material and is not fuzzy.

I do understand your concerns though, when I first got WWI planes I got them in WSF, and was fairly disappointed in them. Once I found out the better material was different in look and feel, it's pretty much all I will purchase.

So the reason I have seen so much white fuzz, is becuase it is the standard product...got you.

;)

The Ion Cannon will be out of scale, I guarantee.

Beach Ball sized in plastic is to **** big.

Just to clarify though. WSF isnt so much the standard material as it is the cheapest. FD is still comparable price wise with an official mini and gives very nice results.

Cool pics there Sir Gossric!

I will admit to being pleased with the way they came out (Thanks to Prevailing winds paint skills) although the Corellian transport is merely primed

I wash each printed model with a soft bristle brush under running water. It cleans away the production byproducts. Presto. It is a little more expensive, and I'd rather have FFG manufactured ships instead but it is a great option for ships which FFG doesn't or won't make. Gosric made custom tie-wings which are very nice. I doubt that FFG would make that ship, though it is fun.

These turrets would be fun. I want to play them in the DS scenario at zero cost to the empire, since the rebels only have to inflict one hit to win.

I had some models done by a sculptor and printed at Shapeways in FUD a while back, and they looked fine but they would brake if I used them like the Official FFG Ships, I think.
