A Reasonable Amount of Tokens?

By shadeleader, in X-Wing

After Christmas, I treated myself to a Plano 5231, and while I was filling up the top tray, it struck me that i have an ungodly number of tokens at this point (3 core sets, at least 2 of every expansion, except for the HWK and the large ships).

What I'm wondering is, from a practical perspective, how many of these tokens do I actually need to have with me? I mean, I'm pretty sure I don't need all 2,000 target locks. Looking for some feedback from those of you who play more regularly than I get to (maybe once a month or less). Thanks!

Take your Target locks. Take one pair of each letter and then spray the other side with black paint.. WHO THOUGHT DOUBLE SIDED WAS A GOOD IDEA. Other than that

A while back I sorted out numbers for a Cog'O'Two

This is the list for the Premium Set, which was designed to give you enough for most lists at 100pts with plenty to spare.

Set of 63 gaming tokens suitable for Star Wars X-Wing

4 ION

8 FOCUS

8 EVADE

4 CRITICAL

8 STRESS

22 SHIELD

6 pairs of TARGET SETS

1 R2 F2

1 EXPOSE

1 MARKSMAN.

For larger games the Premium + a Standard seemed about right.

8 ION

14 FOCUS

12 EVADE

6 CRITICAL

14 STRESS

38 SHIELD

10 pairs of TARGET SETS

1 R2 F2

1 EXPOSE

1 MARKSMAN.

That is actually a brilliant idea. I wish I had thought of it sooner. =D

No you don't need them all.

What I'd do, is figure out the max number of tokens you might need and only bring those.

1 focus per ship

1 evade per ship that has evade

1 TL set per ship that has TL

25-30 shields

6-8 Ion

12-15 Stress

3-5 crit

2 sets of 1-8 or 1-16 if you don't want to double up.

I'd say that would likely cover everything you could need during a game.

I carry all of my tokens in a craft container (two, actually; one for the standard stuff and one for acrylics...) sorted by type into each of the little bins. What I generally do is sit down for a match and just take a minute to pull out the ones I think I'll need.

For my regular B-Wing squad that's four sets of target locks, four stress, four focus, 20 shields, 4 crits... I've got the rest handy in my bag if I need them but I just assemble a little stock of the tokens I know I'll need and be using and go from there.

One handy trick is with the target locks and stuff (the number tokens for generic ships is a good example as well), to actually keep sets of those set aside at all times, in with your ships or whatever so that you're not hunting down three #15s or what have you from this massive pool of random numbers every time you put your squad out. I'll keep some of that actually in a little stock in my foam tray, under the appropriate ships, so that when I pull out the ship I can just grab the tokens it needs and it's ready to go immediately.

Thanks, everyone! Those Cog'O'Two acrylic tokens look great. I'll have to file those away in my wish list.

Or you could put one of each token for each ship in with each ship. So when you play and you want an X-wing you reach into your X-wing bin and find a focus, target locks, shield tokens x2, and a stress token. Then you count anything out before you play.

I don't do it this way but some of my friends do.
