Question about repainting

By RealShinigami, in X-Wing

Hello all,

I recently got some ships double that I would like to try and repaint,

so I was wondering what would be the best course of action?

I have some experience painting models from other games,

but Iam unsure if best results are gained by tryign to strip the x-wing models first and then reprime them.

Or just prime them lightly over the existing coat (loss of details?) Or just paint them over (the base colours of GW should adhere and cover strongly enough, no?)

So please let me know!

I would like to get my second HWK-290 the right Moldy Crow look and try something new with the second Firespray for some unique bountyhunter vibe :)

thansk all!

I just paint over the model, I know others do as well... just make sure to use a good dulcote after and then you can gloss paint the windows to get them shiny again..

I use Vallejo paints these days... and they cover just fine.

I stripped the model and ran it through an ultrasonic cleaner. I don't think it was necessary. The paint on the models is very thin.

Primer is probably not needed unless your base coat has problems covering.

I've done fine with painting over. The real key is finess with your brush and the amount of paint you apply. It's something that takes skill and practice and lots of patience, but it's so rewarding when you get it just right~
