Rebel squad feedback

By CagoDorn, in X-Wing

Greetings most excellent X-Wing Enthusiasts! This is just another new player post, looking for feedback and thoughts on my squad build that I just put together. My apologies if this list has been seen commonly before. I have lurked for a while and not seen it though.

------

Wedge Antilles (33)

X-Wing (29), R2 Astromech (1), Push the Limit (3)

Rookie Pilot (21)

Rebel Operative (23)

HWK-290 (16), Blaster Turret (4), Recon Specialist (3)

Gold Squadron Pilot (23)

Y-Wing (18), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

The theory behind this build was to use Wedge & the Rookie are the assault spearhead, the two turreted ships lag behind and give them covering fire to take some pressure off after the first pass, punish any enemies trying to get in behind them and generally mess with the enemy formations. The only downside I can see is that Wedge would have a nice big target painted on his hull. The squad also needs a catchy title. Thanks in advance for your feedback on my squad.

There really isn't much to say about that. Wedge + R2 + PTL, Rookie, and Gold + Ion are all solid even if they don't have any special synergies with each other. You may note that a lot of squads at least try to make use of some synergy to improve the whole. The only ship I really question is the HWK outfitted for the blaster turret + Recon Spec; a big part of me says I'd rather just have another Gold w/ ion turret instead although you may be able to get some additional damage out of that HKW

Thanks for your comments StevenO, I was hoping for the extra damage output from the HWK. I had toyed around with Kyle, Garven and Vander for synergy but I just couldn't get the points to sit right without sacrificing a ship for upgrades.

Your squad is pretty similar to the one I've been running lately to great success. I have wedge with the same upgrades as you, and a rookie xwing like you. Here what I have instead of you though.

Roark + Ion

Blue Bwing

Still have one ship with ion like you do, except roark is ps4 instead of ps2, and he lets one of my other ships shoot at ps12. The bwing can't shoot 360 like a blaster turret but is still good for heavy firepower.

I like what you've got. Very solid, and should be difficult to beat. I know for a FACT that I would try to kill Wedge first, as he's going to be the majority of your damage if left unchecked, so you may want to play around with that. It is a VERY nice list for a first-time player, though :)

Thanks DraconPyrothayan, headhunting Wedge is my main concern, I may just swap him out. I like the idea of Roark sitting back with a Bwing with HLC, taking early pot-shots as the enemy close in, but I don't want the HWK to be a priority target for my opponent until later in the game. Thank you everyone for the positive feedback and taking the time to look this over for me. I can't wait for the chance to try it out ;-)

I have been testing a bit with the HWK-290. A squad similar to what u r running is...

Kyle Katarn/ion cannon turret/recon specialist(29)

Garven Dreis(26)

Gold Squadron Pilot/ion cannon Turret/r2astromech(24)

Rookie Pilot(21)

Although running a HWK and Y-Wing in the same squad is a bit against conventional wisdom, u should still do consistent damage with two ion attacks which hit at 360 degrees/range1-2. This is good against pretty much everything especially imperial swarms which tend to out turn you after the first pass. Large ships will be cautious not to fly to close to the edge once while you have two ion cannons active.

29pts is alot to invest in the HWK i know but in return u get a free focus every turn you take focus action which can be put on any ship at range1-3 (best on Garven as he can use it and pass the free focus to rookie pilot or Y-Wing). I believe Garven Dreis's ability had been FAQ'd to allow him to pass the focus even if he rolls blanks and/or hits/crits on his attack :)
