Fleeing to the Wall plot question

By DSV1, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Ello

Very new to the game and while reading the cards I came across the word OTHERs in bold italics on the plot card Fleeing to the wall, now while I think I understand the gametext that follows what does "others" mean in game tresm and why is it in Bold italics ?

Ive been through the rules doc and the faq and cant seem to find anyreference or did i miss it ?

I did ask in the rules secuion but havent had a reply so i thought i would try here

Thanks Pete

Others is a plot trait as I understand it. There was a series of plots with the Others traits way back in the yore CCG days. You can look up Tzummain's site for further details, but here is what a quick search turned up. There existed 9 plots with Others traits back in CCG era and Fleeing to the Wall (core) is a reprint from A Song of Night cycle.

Some plots (usually other plots with Others trait as shown in the above link) and maybe other card types too have abilities that key off traits like Others. The more commonly found (nowadays) Military Battle, Intrigue Gambit, or Power Struggle plots empower certain cards and their effects (characters, events, etc) in the 5KE and LCG chapter packs.

Hi Ruvion

Thanks for the reply, I spent this afternoon trawling through the rules and faqs trying to find it without success

Cheers Pete

Hey no problem...I find the rulebook does its job only on the surface...for deeper questions it is a mess. I usually consult the tome of wisdom called ktom when rules issues arise.

Well, the "mystery" part is recognizing that it is written in bold, italic type like the traits on other types of cards. Once you realize it is a trait, the definition of a trait in the "Card Anatomy" on p.4 of the Rule Book fills everything else in.

I've been thinking about how rules game rulings are going to work if Tzumainn quits updating his site. FAQ's usually come out long after an issue has been flagged, and in many cases a small question that a FAQ wouldn't address can really frustrate/comfound players. Though I suppose we can "search the forums" for Ktom game rulings, in the past it was easiest to look on Tzu's site (for Ktom's input and others'), so I hope Tzu doesn't stop with his very helpful and appreciated work. Nevertheless, I've long felt that FFG should maintain an online site like Tzumainn's that is updated automatically when new packs are released. Tzumainn's site, more than anything, has kept me in the game for the past three years, and I know it has contributed to the interest of several other local players in the game. Because Tzumainn did all this work in the past, I didn't want to press for duplicated databases, but I honestly feel the task is quite a bit of work--too much, really--for one person. (It also seems like FFG could advertise on the site quite effectively, and the site itself would work as a springboard for new players to get into the game.)

I dunno...

The majority of my meta has both this site, and tzumainn's site bookmarked. While we habitually look at tzu's site daily, its often for any new deck ideas, articles (which have been all but non-existent for months), and card spoilers. Man, do we miss those card spoilers...

For any kind of a card ruling, we tend to come here and post. Remarkably, we tend to have answers by the end of our gaming session.

I'd miss tzu's site if it went the way of the dodo, even if its mostly just checked now hoping to see people comment on chapter pack cards.

I also further agree that FFG should maintain a spoilers page, especially in the LCG era where we're only dealing with 20 or so cards a month.

Really, the game may even profit from such a thing; if a smart advertising guru spun the spoiler list right, it could serve as a major enticement to buy chapter packs that people may have previously dismissed.

It's smart advertisement to highlight a few cards and leave it at that (ie: what they've been doing so far). If too much official info is out there for dissection it may drop sales...some people buy simply out of curiosity after all...and word-of-mouth advertisement is always dependent on the interest and energies of the (prospective) consumers, not the seller.

Advertisement is like courtship, reveal too much and you spoil the engagement: look at what happened with some of the blockbuster movie trailers...half the movie was in the trailer!

Personally I would prefer an official spoiler list, however.

I like when I know what am I buying. Since I am from mid Europe and there are no shops with AGoT in my area I have to buy online and the shipping is always around 30 USD. So we try to buy more CPs at once so we could devide the shipping in more people, but anyway every CP costs us 3 USD more then you propably. And it takes a while before we get the cards and there is no way to just buy one in a local shop to see what is in there and then decide if I want to buy one or two more. So I have to rely on Tzus site or the kind players that post the spoilers here.

So I would really appreciate if FFG could post a complete spoiler list with each CP release. Or they could wait like a month and than post a spoiler list. But I am definitely for to have something like this.
