More ships!

By XeroNecross, in X-Wing

A list of cool ships that would be neat to add to the game:

Republic:
Star fighters:

  • Z-95 Headhunter
  • V-wing airspeeder
  • E-wing starfighter
  • K-wing assault starfighter
  • Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor

Gunships / Cruisers:

  • CR90 Corellian corvette(CR70 Corellian corvette)
  • Marauder-class corvette
  • Alderaanian War Frigate
  • Corellian Gunship
  • Nebulon-B escort frigate
  • MC30c frigate (Mon-Calamari)

Empire:
Star fighters:

  • TIE/ad Avenger
  • TIE/D Defender
  • TIE Phantom
  • TIE Sentinel
  • D-Wing Space Superiority Fighter

Gunships / Cruisers:

  • Broadside-class Corvette
  • Tartan-class patrol cruiser
  • Guardian-class light cruiser
  • Lancer-class frigate
  • VT-49 Decimator gunboat

New Factions would be interesting. Even during the Galactic Civil War (first and second Civil War) there were multiple factions running around. This including the Chiss, Hutts, and other various Pirate led organizations such as the Black Sun and Zann Consortium.

*Couldn't find a lot of Chiss vessel related sources*
Chiss Ascendancy:
Star fighters:

  • Nssis-class Clawcraft (rebellion era)
  • Clawcraft (pre-rebellion era)
  • Chiss heavy fighter

Gunships / Cruisers:

  • Chiss assault cruiser

*This includes several various pirate related vessel sources*
Pirate Factions:
Star fighters:

  • Alpha-3 Nimbus-class (V-wing star fighter)
  • Davaab-type starfighter
  • StarViper-class 'attack platform'
  • 'Uglies' (referring to the hybrid scrap fighters of destroyed rebellion and empire space debris)

Gunships / Cruisers:

  • Crusader-class corvette (gunship)
  • AEG-77 Vigo
  • Interceptor IV frigate (Interceptor-class Frigate)

Yuuzhan Vong:
Star fighters:

  • Vong Coral Skippers

Gunships / Cruisers:

*More suggestions to the thread is of course mandatory :)

**The star fighters i listed above for both factions I spent some considerable time researching into and reading up on. Primarily to see if they'd be worth putting into the game as a contrast to what is currently already deployed with the game. Ideally such things as if it'd be less than or equal to a current star ship such as the E-wing was supposed to be an equal to the X-wing if not better, but turned out to be less efficient in combat. This also works with the T-wing interceptor which turned out to be a very bad alternative to the A-wing.

***Note that I added the Vong in there because it occurred to me that the game isn't exactly themed to just the Rebellion-era and thus possibly maybe even accept the Expanded Universe (EU) factions such as the Chiss or the Vong (who are Über awesome!).

Gunships / Cruisers:

  • CR90 Corvette (CR70 Corvette)
  • Marauder-class corvette

The CR90 Corvette is already in the works. It should be released sometime within the next few months.

I heard, but I felt like putting it down anyways as a feel good mention.

I figured it'd be worth mentioning than nothing at all. Seeing I only found 2 corvettes to put down in the list.

I would hope they stay away from anything post-1999 until all the classic designs are produced.

My list is rather short:

Cloakshape Fighter

Razor Fighter

Skipray Blastboat

Assault Gunboat

Missile Boat

Scimitar Assault Bomber

TIE Avenger

TIE Defender

TIE V-38 (No Phantom; cloaking fighters would likely be OP unless they were severely undergunned, and the Phantom was just a prototype anyway)

Z-95 Headhunter

At the end of TheEmpireStrikesBack, when you se the frigate in space, there are some other ships in the fleet, that I never manage to identify.

These might be the right size to fit into the game:)

Yeah when I was doing my research on the different vessels to add to the game that actually was brought up a few times and even got some good pics on them. I forget what they are now I did manage to add one in the above list however I don't remember which ones they were.

I would love to see a TIE Defender make the cut. It'd be a great foil for the B Wing. As far as EU ships, Vong Coral Skippers and X-J Jedi fighters would be fun.

I really like the cruiser list for the empire. For the rebel you should the Outrider and for the the Imperials you should add all the bounty hunter craft like IG-2000 etc.

Don't forget the Lancer-class frigate, which was designed to take on starfighters. That would make an interesting addition.

Plus, the Pirate faction gives the possibilities of Uglies- ships built out of parts of multiple starfighters scavenged from a battlefield. X-Wing bodies with TIE panels, that sort of thing.

I am still holding on to my hope that the TIE Defender will happen

I'm acutely aware that I'm highly biased when it comes to EU ships. There are a lot that I really don't like, most of the TIE variations especially since they're simply "let's slap a different set of wings on the eyeball", which strikes me as lazy. Part of me really wants the game to remain as pure a cinematic OT experience as possible and we can do that now. But... there are some ships that I'd like to see and thus it's hypocritical of me to reject one EU ship in favour of another.

The caveat above in mind, here are some I personally like or don't mind enough to include (common theme being the X-wing game series):

  • Z-95
  • Outrider
  • Assault Gunboat
  • YT-2000 transport (Otana)
  • Delta-class DX-9 stormtrooper transport
  • Sentinel-class landing craft

I'm much more interested in seeing more large ships that are in the movies, not really in terms of making this a starship battle game, but for providing objectives and scenarios for the existing dogfighting, so a lot of these are transports or freighters:

  • Radiant 7/Consular Charger (technically PT, but it's an awesome design, my favourite of those films by far)
  • DP20 frigate/Corellian Gunship
  • Action VI transport (Wild Karrde)

I feel that the pirate ships will require a new faction (Underworld?), which would then allow a whole host of weird and wonderful ships including those of the other bounty hunters. I guess I'm an Imperial Navy purist :)

Republic:

Star fighters:

  • Z-95 Headhunter
  • V-wing airspeeder
  • K-wing assault starfighter
  • Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor

V-Wing Airspeeder eh? you mean the starfighter right? lol :P kind of hard to see how an airspeeder will function in space.

And no Love for the ARC-170?

of any of the ships from the Old Republic how did the ARC-170 not make the list.

Since the Vong didn't appear until after the Rebellion I didn't want to add them to the lists.... However I love the Vong they're my favorite threat to the Star Wars universe.

I looked at the uglies and I didn't even think about adding them cause they're so ugly BUT you have a point... They'd make a great addition to the pirates! Just seeing them in play would make me pee myself... But they'd need to be low points and skills so that you can use more of them in combat...Since they're scavenged and all to me that would make sense.

Note on the V-wing... There are 3 variations of V-wings. 1 being the Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing that is seen in Ep3 and was put in by Lucus himself... Great design seeing that it has V-shaped wings. Then there is another V-wing that doesn't look like a V exactly, but its a shuttle; the V-wing airspeeder transport. The V-wing Shuttle actually transported a multitude of V-wing Airspeeders around to their combat locations. Finally the 3rd variation is the well known one from the Rogue Squadron games and that one is my technicality known as an Air speeder, but simply known as the V-wing. The V-wing Airspeeder used as a star fighter but more commonly used in terrestrial combat, but can be used in space. It's a cheaper starfighter that the New republic Deployed after the rebellion.

As for the ARC-170... I love that fighter to be honest... But it doesn't fit in the Rebellion era. It was out dated and replaced by Z-95 Head Hunters; by cannon references. However to be fair they weren't created until the prequel series...

I'm glad to have seen some of the suggestions (regardless if they were inspired by threads like this or not) used for the actual game. Such as the Tie Defender and Phantom.

What about the TIE Droid?

I wonder if it is too cheap to aid (since they don't want to go under 12pts)

I designed the TIE Droid as a (pilot skill 1) 2/3/2/0 with "evade" and "barrel roll" and 10pts.

Some might think that you can add too many fighters. But the thing is that having them be Pilot Skill 1 two or three of them will die on the first combat phase without doing anything at all. So it would be for expert swarm players. Talking realistically, I doubt FFG will ever release this one because it doesnt lead to having more than one pilot card or new upgrades. The only way it would be released would be if it was part of a Huge ship (like the new X-Wing)

About the K-Wing, I think it should have (besides lots of missiles and torpedoes) a turret of range 3-5 like the corellian corvette. Making it kinda of a sniper and a bomber, but not a ship that you would want on a dogfight.

True. When I put it in there I didn't think to much on the usability of the K-wing in that sense.

I want to amass a huge fleet and play on large tables and play this game with friend(s). One of my co-workers was interested in playing this game when I told him about it. He's not a huge star wars fan, but he and I have been in works on making a gaming group to play a variety of board, card, and table top games such as this.

So I'm having my little brother bring all my X-wing stuff from my parents when they come visit this weekend. I'm in the works of buying some more figures soon as that I can start building a larger fleet and practice playing the game again. I've not played a game of X-wing in over 5 months since I moved to DC.

I'm hoping that since we have gotten the Falcon, the Outirder, Firesprays, and now IG2000 that we will see the Wild Karrde and Hound's Tooth eventually.

And I think a Lancer Frigate would be a good addition to the Empire for a large ship, but it's going to be way more powerfully than a Corellian Corvette. or at least if they keep it close to the books.

And Skipray Blastboats, K-Wings, Dreadnaughts, would be cool as well to see make an appearance down the line.

I could see FFG releasing a Lancer with a TIE or two as a way to keep interest in the game down the line. And if S&V takes off, then I could see Wild Karrde and Hound's Tooth appearing in a wave.

I would love to see the clone gunship. Not the vehicle deploying one but the LAAT/i I believe. ...

A large Emp ship in general would be nice... so far the tantive and the rebel runner are both... well... rebel ships! emps got nothing :/

I'd also like to see some large Pirate faction ships too down the road. I really hope they keep making really cool models and stuff. i love this game :0

I do find it strange they added a 3rd faction before giving the IMPs a huge, but you can't really complain.

It's just odd.

V-wing fighters for S&V.

Empire starfighters:

Assault Gunboat

Missileboat

Can make a case for a PS2or 3 TIE Droid in that they are defaultly programmed with stuff scrub Academy TIE pilots are still learning. Could probably reliably say there wouldn't be a "IMB Deep Blue" version of a TIE Droid so PS3 should be top but other than that, it's a TIE with a different wing no? So 2/3/0 at PS1-3. 12-14 points. Would be interesting to give them a swarm mechanic of some sort on their own useable only within range of other TIE Droid or immune to Stress.

Tie Droid.

When performing a barrel roll action in the activation phase, you may perform the manoeuvre such that your base or the manoeuvre template overlap only friendly Tie Droids.

At the beginning of the combat phase choose 1 friendly Tie Droid in base contact, that ship may not attack this round. Increase your primary attack by 1.

I have always been a fan of the SoroSuub Preybird. This ship appears in the EotE RPG sourcebook Dangerous Covenants, but I remember it more from the WEG Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook. It has a far-reaching EU presence. It would make a decent S&V entry.

The Drexl is pretty nice too.

EDIT: Also throwing my votes in for the Skipray Blastboat (Imp), TIE Avenger (Imp), and the Cloakshape (S&V).
