Your Campaign

By JeppeLaursen, in Game Masters

So in the beginning of the new year, my first Edge of the Empire campaign will start. So I wanted to hear about your campaigns.

Have you had any "iconic Star Wars" moments?

Some great story?

Or just something funny happening to your party?

Or what ever you want to tell about your campaign?

And may the force be with you

Ahh great

Our group finished "Long Arm of the Hutt" the other day.

I spent a lot of time thinking about each room in Teemo the Hutt's palace, and different things that could happen if the fighting took place there, and this paid off a lot!

I've decided lately I want our battles to take place more in three dimensions, so I decided that Thwheek the Kubaz Spy would be particularly athletic and able to climb up into the rafters and shoot down at the heroes from above, giving him the effect of 'cover' as well as making it more challenging for the melee party members like Lowhryyk.

I also decided that I wanted to make the ending even more epic, so I determined that dropping the chandelier on Teemo's head would start a fire that would damage some of the palace's systems and eventually destabilize the entire building, making it more and more dangerous for anyone who sticks around.

I changed the NPCs at the Geonosian party a bit, taking out Orpa and Wex Vio and adding Ockam Senowick, a Mon Calamarian gangster accompanied by a group of Twi'lek dancers. He belongs to the Severed Shade, a Tatooine underworld gang, and he's travelling back to Tatooine to sell one of the Twi'leks to Teemo the Hutt.

The PCs hitch a ride with Ockam and he helps them with their plan. Ockam does his business with Teemo and transfers the Twi'lek to the Hutt and gets paid, meanwhile his other Twi'lek charges distract the Gammorrean guards so the PCs can infiltrate the palace.

Once Ockam's business was done, the Twi'lek girl was chained to Teemo as it dawned on her what she was in for now. The PCs debating making a specific effort to save her, but decided it would be too dangerous and they'd hope to rescue her in the confusion.

Oskara got into position and lined up her shot on the chandelier above Teemo's head, bringing it down with plenty of Successes on the roll. Unfortunately for the Twi'lek dancer, Oskara also rolled a Despair, meaning that Teemo pulled the girl close to him just as the chandelier fell, crushing them both!

The rest was chaos, but exciting! Thugs and Thwheek were fighting as the Palace caught fire and pillars started to fall. It dawned on the players that the 50,000 credits they were hoping to collect from Teemo was UNDERNEATH him, and they wouldn't likely get to it in the confusion.

They reached the landing pad in time to hear the creaking and twisting of metal as it tilted, and Ockam's Sorosuub Luxury Yacht fell from the landing pad, crashing to the Tatooine desert below.

Just at that time, Mathus arrived in the Krayt Fang and lowered ropes for the heroes to climb up into the ship.

The characters all made Athletics checks, upgraded with one Challenge die.

Sasha rolled a Despair and one of the other players rolled a Triumph. I ruled this meant that Sasha was about to lose her grasp and fall to her death, but that one of the other players could sacrifice themselves for her. (In fact it was Lowhryyk who rolled the Triumph, but Lowhryyk was carrying an unconscious Twi'lek who had been injured, so I made a game time decision that his Triumph could apply to anyone else in the party).

Pash's player volunteered and rescued Sasha, falling to his doom as the Krayt Fang took off into space and Teemo's palace crumbled into ash and rock.

We knew we weren't intending to continue playing these characters so I felt I had a little more leeway with one of them dying.

Anyway it was a lot of fun!

I've been working hard to paint a picture for the players with all of the senses--whenever they enter a new space, I describe the sight and sounds, as well as the smells and the feel of the space. The temperature, the smells of perfumes, mechanical oil, alien body odors, etc.

And I've been inspired by the Clone Wars cartoon, which I feel does a terrific job at making incredible action sequences that are epic and have consequences as well as telling moving stories about well-developed characters.

Our next step is to create new characters and start a new EOTE campaign with them.

Meanwhile my wife and I are brainstorming a simple Buffy RPG using the Star Wars RPG rules with a few minor changes. We're planning to try this out with some encounter sessions this week.

I am going to start my first edge of the empire campaign in the beginning of the new year. At some point I will be doing a homemade adventure called "The Search for Iego" : Iego, a planet of myths and legends. Angels, treasures worth thousand and thousands of credits and much much more. An upcoming crime lord has hired a group of spacers to take on this dangerous task.

This adventure will include creatures of legends, flying through dangerous sectors where asteroid fields and black holes are a common sight, finding the only person who might know the way to Iego, the dangerous twi'lek with a mysterious past, Captain Sulexa and legendary treasures.
