Fancy GM Storage boxes

By Blue Dog, in Game Masters

I asked a while ago on Reddit and here, most people seem to go with Plano boxes or something similar.

I don't travel much for gaming since I'm lucky enough to have a gorgeous boardroom table in my dining room (given to me from my bosses when we moved offices, it's 8' by 4'), so I wanted something cool to store all my dice, pencils, and a bunch of minis.

Enter my parents, who mailed me this fantastic antique sewing kit from several provinces away! I can't imagine what the shipping must have been on this...

It won't fit the books, but it will fit everything else, and looks awesome to boot!

This is admittedly mostly me showing off, but does anyone else use something similar or have suggestions?

Lovely. I love seeing stuff like that re-purposed for gaming.

It won't even fit the books in the bottom?

It looks great though, I was just perusing the internet for the same sort of thing, since I too play at a big table at home and I'd like to class up the joint a little.

Nope, the core book especially is rather large. The books are slightly wider than the sewing kit as well.

My wife gifted me with the X-Wing Miniatures Game for christmas so the bottom section is holding all the templates, rules, dice, etc. for that game now.

I have the core rulebook, beyond the rim, will be picking up enter the unknown and Age of Rebellion when they come out too so that's a lot of books, they'll have to stay on the book shelf.

I was lucky enough to cram all my x-wing stuff into a few plano boxes that miraculously fit in a messenger bag. No such luck with my EotE resources!

*drool*

I usually pile everything on the front seat of my car, then awkwardly try to carry everything into my buddy's house... dropping stuff everywhere.

I have repurposed a bulk plastic ammo case I got from cabela's when I last bought 1k rounds for my AR. I wish I could find another source for this box close by so I could make my pathfinder stuff more portable again.

I use a Harry Potter backpack and a poster tube from Staples for my Battlemat. Then it all goes back on the shelf when I get home. If Mini's are involved, I use a variety of Plano tackle storage.

That's actually a terrific idea. I live right next to a Cabela's, so I might be looking into that myself. My only concern would be figuring out a way to put a thin layer of foam in the ammo case so it didn't cause any damage to slightly fragile stuff.

My concern for finding a great storage solution is that I can't predict just what sorts of books FFG will release and I want to have them all. So that means I need to invest in some sort of trunk or perhaps a small truck?

I currently have at least one of every x-wing ship/package and was able to fit everything in a single plano box...EXCEPT the Imperial Shuttle. I was so pleased that I got even the Falcon and Slave in there, and some other duplicates I have like TIEs and x-wings...but the shuttle is just too big.

I'm not at my main machine right now, but there was a really AWESOME GM box someone built and posted on their blog. When it was time to travel to the game location, he'd grab the box and go. When he'd get there, he would open it, take out the essentials, slide in a few metal inserts with notes, and would have a GM screen with everything he needed.

It didn't look too complicated to make, either, if you have that kind of talent (I lack the talent and tools, thus why I never built one).

One that I did consider getting commissioned from a friend that does woodworking is a smaller version of this beastie . I'd post the images, but I am unable to do so according to the random popup that the site gave. Sorry!

As for me, I've been sticking with a few binders stuffed into my Bag of Holding when I'm on the go. EotE has me using a cleaned out Chinese food container for the special dice (bought a couple of sets for my table) so I don't end up mixing them up in my chainmaille dice bag.

I managed to get my shuttle in one of the plano boxes, I will have to snap a pic.

Now, if only I could store the rest of my materials in such a OCD way I'd be set!

Ah-ha, found it! BEHOLD, what I believe to be the best GM storage box out there !

I have this exact same box. I've had it for years, no idea where it actually came from. I assume maybe it was my grandma's. I use it to store my G.I. Joes. It made going to my friends house with my toys so much simpler back in the day.

Bullet proof, blaster proof, and it may even have it's own atmosphere!

It's got a very Indiana Jones look to it, so I approve.

That thing looks awesome
