New player what to buy ?

By DSV1, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I have the core set and was wondering do i buy 1 of each chapter pack ? or are some not worth it whereas as others are worth buying x2 0rx3 packs of ?

Just to clarify i wont be playing tournaments so its all about building decks and playability for myself and friends.

Also are the card sin the Core set all new ones as some seem essential in multiple copies ( eddard stark ) so is there anyway to get them without buying the whole core set again , I feel slightly annoyed if i have to buy the board etc again just to get the cards.

If you don't want to buy another core set...buy some Chapters Packs to fill in the holes. As of yet there aren't too many Eddard Starks in LCG (just the one in the coreset)...so if you want another, you would either have to buy another CS or wait for a later CP to update him.

Eg: (minor spoiler) Arya has a 'copy' out in A Time of Ravens cycle (end spoiler) and another one is coming out in the King's Landing cycle.

So far the Time of Ravens seem to be a good card pool for two houses provided you get two copies of certain CP. Hopefully the KL cycle would also prove to be a good pool for two more houses providing enough cards for deckbuilding for 4 players.

there are plenty of threads on here about CP make up and buying reccomendations, i just don't have the time to search for them right now

CS eddard is a reprint of an old card, but it was changed enough that the old card cannot be used as a substitute. There is no down side to buying a second CS (look at it like you ppaid $40 for 4 decks, and ignore the other stuff). Aside from eddard you will find that you will be able to build tighter decks for all house and not have to rely on some of the weaker cards in both the CS and chapter packs to fill out your deck to 60+

As a potential purchaser of this game, I have a question related to this thread topic.

From the "State of the AGoT LCG" article:

"KLE was the first cycle designed and developed entirely for the LCG, and it has a number of exciting features."

So, would it be a good start to just start with the Core Set, the King's Landing Chapter Packs, and the King's of the Sea expansion? It sounds like the previous cycles were not really designed around the LCG aspect and I'd rather just start with an "intended vision" kind of game.

You can do just that.

On the other hand, the Kings of the Sea expansion is supposed to fix some of the synergy issues. If it does a good job of it, then A Time of Ravens (and A Clash of Arms too if you like mix and matching borders) is not off limits either...You may need to buy multiple copies of KoS to make it work however.

Well, I jumped on the bandwagon with Call of Cthulhu LCG with getting 2X Core Sets and 2X each chapter pack to provide a second player with access to the same card pool for around $100. In essence, I treat it as a "board game" since rares will be just that: rare. No 2X or 3X per deck unless my friends wish to take it further which most won't since we don't get to play regularly.

However, pulling that off with AGoT would set me back double the amount due to the amount of previous chapter packs. Ouchie. That doesn't even include the new expansion pack or cycle.

Im a newbie and just purchased the box set and 1 of each chapter pack with the goal of making 4-6 even decks for playing home games.I also dont really want to buy multiple packs but i might get 1 more box set(for the plots ).I spent some time building decks and found its probably kinda hard to build summer, winter, banner or reinforcment deck without buying multiple chapter packs...anyways,i mainly wanted to thank all you guys for the quick responses and info you give us newbies!!

If you want to have all 6 Houses even and competitive you might want to get some of the packs more than once. From 1 CoreSet and one copy of each CP you would be able to build 2-3 good decks I would say, but then you will miss Plots, Basic Resources like Crossroads etc. You will also need more winter and Summer to make all decks competitive and even. The Summer/WInter theme is strong if one player have it and the other not. So it only depends on how much you want to spend on each CP. Anyway you dont need all of them 3x, but some of them is good to have at least twice.

Summer and Winter and which other CP's would be good to double up on?
