Also, when the text says "each other friendly player" ( http://goo.gl/dUlpia ), I'm assuming this means friendly players _but_ yourself?

You are not an other friendly player, so you are correct that those effects don't help you in 1v1.

You are correct. That card "Supporting Fire" ( http://goo.gl/wOaeuq ) is kind of the opposite to a twist of fate. When in your edge stack, after the reveal, you can then determine if you need to add another card to win the edge.
