Super simplified so young kids can play.

By Filthy Pierre, in X-Wing

I got 3 young kids and to make it simple for us to play this is how I do it.

Pick your ship. Pilot skill is ignored. Only the defence, attack, hull and shields are used.

Roll to see who has the highest hits using whatever dice you have.

That person starts and it goes in a clockwise circle for maneuvering. Then once all maneuvering is done pick your targets who are in range. Only using forward firing arcs regardless of ship used.

Roll your attack dice and then defence dice for the defender.

Focus, target lock etc not used.

Still modify dice for range.

Thats about it.

Gets them to concentrate more on placing their ships than picking actions and as they get used to it add more of the core rules into it.

My kids are good. I have lost every game to them so far using these rules.

Also a good idea to teach them how to roll dice so it doesn't bounce across the table knocking stuff.

I tell them to roll it in their hands then place their hand on the table and tip the dice out. If their hand is off the table when the dice roll out they have to roll again.

Hope that may be of some use to those with yound kids.

Cheers

I like this idea! May i ask how old your children are?

3 Under 5.

I like the simplifiations. But I like even more than you found a way to play with your kids.

Awesome. There was a thread awhile back asking for similar things. Some kids can grasp the game as is (someone reported playing with a 6 year old). I play with my best friends 8 year old all the time. Anytime I come over I know he's going to want in at least one game.

I learn more about my own tactics and maneuvering playing him than anyone else. He doesn't always do the thing that is obvious to me so I have to adapt quickly. It also give me a chance to play a lot of my Developing Builds.

Enjoy it man. Enjoy.

My 5 yo dropped all of mine, and had his up. The last move he had put his bwing right behind my tie interceptor. Like about a half inch. You don't want that Ever. I set up the same. Let them pick a ship and didn't worry about actions or other extras just flying and shooting. I need to make a cheat sheet for the movements. The dials are not always easy to move. I told him we are going to start adding some more of the game. I do not like getting dropped by has fleet.

Did you admonish your kids to not get cocky?

I used the starter rules with my then 7 now 8 year old. It skips range stuff and actions, but the rest is the same. She clobbered me. :) She's pretty smart, I'm curious to set up a game with more advanced rules to see how she does.

There are quite a few player-made sheets showing all the maneuvers for each ship if that would help. Your kids just need to pick a maneuver from the sheet with their ship.

GeckoTH has done some nice ones on the A Few Maneuvres site.

I play with my my boys 3 and 4 using these, moment templates and attack dice.

Several people have mentioned this but the inserts in the ship box have a chart of all the manoeuvres for that ship? Or is this only in recent productions of the ships (all of mine have them but they are all brand new)
