mono lore multi sphere deck

By Noccus, in Strategy and deck-building

Hi,

Incoming wall of text! & a deck.

Usually I only play multiplayer, but I have a concussion now, (weird experience I might add) and got time on my hands.

I actually had quite the LotR lcg burn out some time ago, and haven't touched my cards for a while.

Anyway, so being bored and all I started solo deck building for the first time.

I've been busy playing and experimenting the last couple of days.

After building some themed decks with moderate successes I had to get back to my beloved lore sphere and came up with this.

It works mighty well, and 9 out of 10 times can keep up with enough willpower and strength for the staging area.

I've really enjoyed playing it, and it is great to see that it works well in terms of flexability, as it was meant.

Strategy & combos are written below.

First, it's a big deck. But that's been taken care of.

This deck has amazing draw power. I've had sessions were I had drawn through the entire deck.

Scroll of Isildur is only in there for this 1 cause: Recycle Mithrandir's advice or Daeron's runes.

When discarding alot with Protector of lorien, Will of the west is there to do it again.

You are always looking for a rivendell minstel in your opening hand. Then fetch any song you need, or have cards for in your hand.

You also want to start collecting some resources on 1 hero for this purpose. I use Aragorn, as he has the most hit points.

Then play the song on Aragorn and play eighter: (if in hand of course. if not, start digging.)

-Light of Valinor on Mirlone & UC on Aragorn.

-Gondorian shield on Denethor & Rivendell blade on Mirlonde.

-Steward of gondor & celebrian's stone on Aragorn.

The utility guy to card draw from the dicard pile here is Erebor hammersmith.

He can recycle any attachment you discarded, used or through prodtector of lorien.

Though if you fetch Scroll of Isildur you can then cast Mithrandir's advice or Daeron's runes again, if there's another in your pile.

(also usefull for: elf-stone, poisoned stakes or any other discarded attachment for that matter)

Asfaloth goes on Mirlone, making it a great playable card, chipping away at locations. Not as overpowerd as on Glorfindel.

Use the Elf-stones to play Gildor, Haldir, Minstrels or Ithilien Archers if you don't have the former.

The Master o/t forge is great to pluck out much needed key attachments. Later he's usefull as a chump.

Other great chumps are Erebor hammersmith & Ithilien tracker.

Scry when you can. It's also useful to play the Tracker's ability when you know a foe is coming.

Poisoned stakes are only there for the bigger foes. Scry for them with Henemarth or Denethor.

If not possible, here's a fun strategy that saved me a few times, and is not that difficult to pull off:

As a boss mob pops up unexpected, engage it this round. Maybe you'll need to chump block.

Then play the Poisoned stakes next round, hope no new enemy pops off the encounter deck and defend again.

Lastly shoot it back into the trap if you have a Archer contributing on the damage.

Then reset your threat with Aragorn at the end of the round, making it's engagement cost usually higher then your threat.

Now you can let it bleed to death in the staging area. And give it the finger if you like.

(If not dying fast enough or it's threat is annoying you can add damage with the Trackers & Bows of you have them set up)

Finally, with 3 Rivendell minstrels, Gildor & Haldir, on top of Protector of Lorien for lore;

then adding Light of valinor, Asfaloth & Celebrian's stone, you should have few problems with willpower.

All the other cards explain themselves really.

Once this deck starts rolling, it's hard to stop I've found. You just need a Rivendell minstel to fire things up.

Questions or feedback is always welcome.

Cool deck. Neat to see that combo you mentioned with archers and poisoned stakes and Aragorn. I've always wanted to see that work in a deck, but never considered the Aragorn part.. Mono lore is the only sphere that can pull off getting cards from all the spheres in a mono deck, so it's neat to see that you pulled it off with a deck that has some success.

I'm kind of surprised not to see ranger spikes since I usually choose that over Poisoned spikes every time.

A copy of A sword that was Broken can also solve willpower problems, you probably would not get it on until late game, so it might not make that big of a difference then.

I also just made a Mono lore deck with the same Heroes. i decided to include Gandalf (OHaUH) for consistent questing and attack power early on. I also incuded Word of Command to grab a card from If I need to. with Aragorn's ability I keep him in play all game. Like you said Scroll with Mithrander's advice is pretty crazy.

Thanks for the feedback.

Glad you liked the Trap+Archer+Aragorn part. I thought it nifty enough to share.

As for Ranger Spikes: fine card, but the poison stakes are there for just this combo.

It's fun to try different cards instead the ones players always auto-inculde imo.

Specially when you find some new combo that works.

The OHaUH Gandalf+Word of Command is a good idea though. Good advice, going to try that.

On the Sword that was Broken: I considerd the card when making the deck but it didn't make the cut for exactly the reasons you state yourself :)
