Epic fail...

By TallTonyB, in X-Wing

Me personally though: Tycho with focus/evade, stealth, range 3, through a rock getting shot at by a single Tie Fighter (only shot the entire round) and him getting hit/hit. I rolled 6 blanks and canceled one with the evade token. I almost quit right there.

That takes the cake so far! Less than a 0.07% chance of that happening, i.e. 1:1438... ouch

I still managed to eek out a win at that tournament too. That was the first and only time that I flew Arvel in any kind of competitive setting too.

It was a tournament match and I was winning with a 3 Firespray build, when I confused the direction an unhit Firespray was facing and flew it 3 forward right off the map.

When I fly a bare fire spray I have to remind myself which way I'm facing before assigning directions. Something about that rear firing arc just throws me off.

i think u take first prize! Lol

I recall running a 4 Bomber squad, with Jonus and Gammas, one Gamma with an APT. Focus with Gamma, pass Target Lock with Jonus' Squad Leader. Wedge fires at the Gamma, 2 hits, 1 Crit. The Crit...Blinded Pilot...Gamma does nothing, dies to PS 2 pilots after. I still pull off a win...somehow.

Next game, Gamma Lines up on a Rookie Pilot, ready to fire the APT. Ibtisam shoots at Gamma...1 hit, 1 crit. I roll 1 evade. The Crit is...Blinded Pilot...........2 games in a row...Definitely lost that game. Makes me wonder if that Gamma was just blind in general...

I was playing a game last week with a group of friends and I was just having the worst luck rolling dice. Nothing was going my way. I was down to my last ship (A-Wing) and had no actions to use. Currently had 1 shield gone. A firespray with HLC was firing on him and got 4 hits. To be funny I decided to grab all 9 of my defense dice and roll them. Ended up rolling, 1 evade, 2 focus, and 6 blanks. And even rolling 9 dice I still had my ship destroyed... Everyone there just died laughing because that pretty much summed up my whole night of rolling dice.

On the first firing round of that game, I had 3 ties shot at Luke. Each tie had 2 hits on him, and on my 3 defending I rolled all Blanks. Not 1 single focus or evade dice.

My Rookie behind Wedge (enemy) whose shields are down, at Range 1, with TL.

I roll all blanks and laugh as I say, "I spend my Target Lock".

Then I proceeded to roll a grand total of 1 hit, which he evaded, next turn he Koio's and blasts the rookie..

Ok, BOTH of my two epic fails happened at gencon 2013. not sure if it was in the same game or not but i am thinking it was. any ways here they are. i laugh at them cause well just really stupid on my part.

1) plan a red manuver on an already stressed ship! Ouch! i shoulda double checked before planning that one lol.

2) went to do a 5 k turn and flew straight off the board! And Again OUCH!!! in my defense though i really did think i had more room than i actually had. so now even if i have the room i do not 5k turn anywhere near the edge of the board. I have rolled all blanks up to five. and have even done it twice in a row. usually the way my rolls go is i roll plenty of eveades when i don't need to and when i really need that one or two evades i come up all blanks. I think i need blessed dice.

i've been told by my local playgroup that my defense dice are godly and i always get slammed about them winning my games for me; even if my piloting was flawless in the game it always comes back to the dice blame game

you can't win either way it seems

Heck...just today, I had Ten Numb lined up on Howlrunner w/stealth...range one...TL and Focused....Advanced torps away...4 hits / 1 crit...what does Howl do...nothing but roll 4 evades....at least the crit made it through...so far in my games...it's the only time a Tie has survived an Adv Torps shot!

So, with that being said...it was a FAIL. How does a 3 HP ship survive that onslaught!

I just finished a game on Vassal that was definitely the biggest epic fail I've had with this game yet. I resigned after only two rounds! I was playing a brand new squad of Krassis with HLC & Recon Spec, Mauler, Backstabber, and Saber vs Howl with Swarm, Turr with PTL, and 4 Academy Ties.

First round:

Academy on Saber 2 vs 4 I take 1 crit which is structural damage.

Mauler on Academy 2 vs 4 I give no damage

Krassis on Academy 4 vs 3 I give 2 damage

Saber on Academy 3 vs 4 I give no damage

Academy on Krassis 2 vs 3 I take 1 damage

Academy on Saber 2 vs 3 I take 2 crits...DEAD

Second round:

Howl on Krassis 3 vs 2 I take one damage

Academy on Krassis 3 vs 2 I take three damage

Turr on Krassis 3 vs 2 I take 2 damage

Mauler on Academy 4 vs 3 I give 1 damage

Backstabber on Academy 3 vs 3 I give no damage

Krassis on Academy 4 vs 3 I give 1 damage

Academy on Krassis 3 vs 2 I take 3 damage...DEAD

At this point I resigned, but let him take his last possible attack which was Academy on Backstabber 3 vs 3 I took no damage

I would like to point out that not counting my very last defensive roll after I had already resigned (which was 3 evades ironically), I had only rolled 1 evade, 4 focus, and 13 blank!!! What's even worse is that I never had a focus token available for any of the 4 focus I got.

So after two rounds I had lost Saber and Krassis, and only dealt out 4 damage total, 2 to two different academy ties.

I was teaching some friends of mine how to play the game. We were playing a small group game I had Tycho as my only ship. One of my friends had Vader in the TIE Advanced with Homing Missles and shot them at Tycho on the first exchange. He rolled 3 hits and 1 crit, I rolled all blanks and the crit was 2 damage. Dead Tycho, before he even got to shoot. Nothing like getting eliminated on the first exchange by a noob.
