Yuz' not a Wookiee anymore!

By HappyDaze, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The species with Claws is the Yuzzem, not the Wookiee. However, replace the Claws with a rank of Feral Strength (or Wookiee Rage if you like it) and you could use what I listed for Wookiees.

Definitively, Brawn 3 feels way too low for a Wookiee.

Presumably because a brawn of 4 indicates that your in the super league of characters, though in this case it might be fitting, just seem strange that you can make a non-combat class, completely armed for bear, by just being a wookie. Super hitting machanics gooo! Though I guess I haven't really read enough background fluff to know whether being a strength 4 character is justified.

I don't think that Brawn 4 indicates a character in "a super league of characters" any more than a 4 Intellect does. However, Wookiees are supposed to be among the strongest species (just as Drall are among the smartest), so a base score that is better than 3 shouldn't be out of the question.

Also close combat damage is fixed by weapon (like ranged damage is). The effect of Brawn to the close combat damage is already accounted by the dice pool, through the number of successes rolled (like agility does for ranged damage).

But as Happy D has said, a 4 Brawn character is not more super PC than a 4 Int one, unless your games are combat heavy of course.

May be I should specify that in my games I have house ruled that Soak (like Defense) starts at zero for all characters, its not based on Brawn, and it is only increased by talents (enduring), equipment (armour) and special abilities (some NPCs).

Well there in lies the question: Who is going to take a wookiee (4 brawn), for an non-combat centric campaign. The whole argument with the claws/brawn, comes down to combat... it's not like they are coming into play in knowledge based checks.

In that regard, as wookiees only use the claws for climbing, why not just grant the species a blue dice for climbing checks?

Someone who cares for role play may be? A fan of wookiees who does not care for stats but for flavour?

The player I have playing a wookiee wanted one without even knowing the EotE system, just because he likes wookiees. He is playing a wookiee mechanic. He has not entered one single time into hand to hand combat and he shows little interest for it.

It seems like Chewbacca hardly ever used his brawn.

He threatened R2D2 in A New Hope. He strangled Lando and knocked down some Stormtroopers in Empire Strikes Back and I'm sure he used his brawn some on Jabba's barge and on Endor, but most of the time he was either using Mechanics, Piloting or shooting his bowcaster, right?

But does that rage have any effect on the wookiee's ability to use skills like Medicine, Machanics, or Astrogation? Per RAW, it doesn't.

Setback dice. If the player decides the Wookiee is enraged, and thus gains the +1/+2 damage bonus, then he also suffers either 1 or 2 Setback dice (respective to the degree of injury) to mentally-focused skill checks until he calms down.

By the RAW, the Wookiee's player doesn't get a choice. If he's injured, he's raging - sometimes for extended periods of time with Critical Injuries. This is why I say that the Wookiee Rage as a game mechanic sucks ass. Far better to just give them a rank of Feral Strength that, when called upon can be said to stem from 'Wookiee Rage' than to have the rules we have now.

Would it not be better the Frenzied Attack talent instead of Feral Strength?

Feral Strength is close to the same effect as Wookiee Rage. Frenzied Attack might seem like a good replacement. But its a cruel trick to play on a species with such a poor Strain Threshold.

I don't think any race should have a 4 in anything. Racial templates are meant to reflect a tendency towards certain activities, not that each single member of their race is a super genus that can build super computers. Though I imagine thats a difference in taste as apposed to anything else. Having a 4 in a state indicates that you are a professional, on the assumption that 6 is an extremely impressive being at the edge of being a full blown super being and 3 is being merely gifted. I imagine a lot of people would take a 20 point downgrade to gain 40 points of stat elsewhere.

Plus I haven't really seen anything in the movies that justifies wookies being anything more then average in strength. If they want to be really good at something I believe firmly that it should be paying the cost to do so. Though thats just
