April 2009 STOG

By FFGSteve, in UFS General Discussion

Welcome to another UFS STOG, this is a big month with the release of the new base set and the start of block 3 so lets get ready to rum... no wait that isn’t it, let get started.

Set 12 pre release hits tomorrow and it will hit hard. This is the most excited I have been about a set in over a year and I can’t wait for you guys to start playing with it too. I’ve made more decks with these cards than I have in a long time. James came over to the house the other night and crushed them all but I’ll get him next time. Or maybe not:)

I’m sorry to say that we recently said goodbye to Paul Bromen, who left to join his families business, we wish him the best of luck. What does this mean? Not to worry the sun is still rising, although it did snow overnight this weekend but melted by lunch, weird. Some who have known about this have asked how to apply. Well I’ve had 5 people from the marketing team pitching in to cover the OP for all of our cards games and it is working really well and seems like it is a better solution to throwing it all at one person so I’m instead going to be posting a different marketing job later this week but not one for OP. From now on start sending any e-mails to

[email protected] .

Erik is now the OP point man and will make sure it gets to where it needs to go.

I’m happy to say there are no bans or errata this month and we are really excited to see how the new cards effect the meta.

I want to thank everyone again for helping to get the word out for the 3rd anniversary event and making it such a huge success, when it was all said and done a little over 200 retailers participated. the trade up deck promotion was not a big as I thought it might be but still good, though I did see some currently players taking part in a promotion that was supposed to be for new players, I’m going to go with the theory that you are planning the give them to new players, I’m sure that’s it:)

With the pre release this week, the invitational next week, it is great month for UFS. All that and a new Dresden Files book tomorrow. It feels like Christmas.

Until next month.

See you in the arena,

Steve

Woot I'm pumped about the new set!

Why do I imagine Zangief saying this?

I second this question. Regionals in Santa Clara is just over 2 weeks away, and knowing what is coming back to B3 would be incredibly helpful to deck construction and rules arbitration.

Well, just in case there's confusion, these are reprints that will be cards in Set 12, not like Widow Maker or something where they declared they're printing watermarked promos and you just had to remember them. So not knowing them is basically the same as not knowing any of the other cards from set 12, you'll see what they are in the next couple days at your prerelease ^_^

Here's my question: How are they going to go about reprinting MAC when there's a Ken only ability on it? Will they leave it on there despite having (probably) Shadowar art? Or remove it and post-errata the old version as such?

Good question. i think they might just give the ability to someone else. but who knows. that would be somewhat odd if they kept the ken line.

I wish paul bromen good luck in his endeavours outside of FFG as well as good luck to his successor. I wish i would have gotten back into the game when the promotion started cuz i definitely would have traded in a few old mtg decks. Hopefully, FFG does the trade up promotion again. I definitely wont miss it again.

My roommate's going to enjoy that Dresden book. I would too if I ever got around to reading the 2nd and onward. (Middle of Heaven's Net is Wide from the Tales of the Otori series, and I'm gonna be there a while...)

But these are exciting times... Best of luck to Paul, and to whomever gets the new non-OP marketing position.

HALT, PIRATE.

There are MORE Tales of the Otori books? TELL ME MORE OR ELSE :3

Did Ivy get spoken about as was said last week? I would like to know how my busty lady fares :P

I'd look at the podcast myself, but at the moment, my only internet connection is at work, so I shouldn't really :(

its not up yet when it is i will let you know

the thing that keeps me from agreeing with this is the licenses of the cards in question.

MotB is SC3
MAC is SF

set 12 is SW and SC4. you can't put different licensed cards in there. the most likely scenario is that the cards went to print with set 12 , and will be league foils.

On top of that, it would be highly bothersome to completely recreate a card if there's no reason to.

where is everybody getting the idea that MAC and MOTB are being reprinted in the next two sets? What's going to happen is they will be made shiny with a 5-mark shuriken, and that's it. I don't understand the confusion....

Also, negative props for no bans -_- . I just hope they realize that Set 12 DOES have to justify this...

If I recall correctly, Steve said pretty explicitly that these would be cards in the sets, and that each set from now on will have a few reprints in it. So presumably, they will have the same name and abilites, but the art/flavor would be for a different character. It's not like there aren't any SW characters that might qualify as a "Martial Arts Champion." For Mark of the Beast, they could just have a random card with Maxi on it, the same way there was a random Sodom card in set 8. (tough outer shell) Or have a SW character with a move by the same name I guess.

Should probably check the podcast again.

*edit* He doesn't say completely explicitly, but all indications are that they will be within the sets. (He says things like the cards would be "in set 12," talks about how the other 3 will be a surprise when the set is released, etc.) Certainly no indication of them being league foils.

I think they want to see how Set 12 fleshes out before any more bans take place.

Didn't realize we WANTED more useless cards and a longer list to memorize...

I wouldn't say "we" ever. As you ought to know, banned lists are always going to be a hot topic during a game, with some cards being more heatedly debated than others. Set 12 looks like it's going to bring this game a whole fresh start, but with the threats that already exist, Set 12 is going to have to try immensely hard, and it doesn't need that pressure.
