New Starter Set?

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

If FFG released a new starter set of 3-4 small ships what would you want to see in it?

1. XYA with new pilots and upgrades

2. A-Wing + Y-Wing + Advanced Tie with new pilots and upgrades

3. X-Wing + 2x Tie-Fighter with new pilots and upgrades

4. ?

id love to see some repaints of the wave1 ships myself.

I would love some new y-wing pilots that can take EPT's

i even think there would be interest in all one faction starter sets.

Tie-Fighter, Tie-Advanced (new pilot cards and a new title card for the Tie-Advanced please)

Tie-Fighter, Tie-Advanced, Tie-Intercepter,

Tie-Fighter, Tie-Advanced, Tie-Intercepter, Tie Bomber

just having new repainted ships would be awesome but if they were going to the trouble then they should include new pilots, title cards (for A-Wing, Y-Wing and Tie-Advanced please!)

If they do a new starter set I would like to see a new faction.

I really can't see them doing a "starter" set without the X-Wing which is the game's namesake. Maybe it could be balanced out by a single Interceptor or Advanced value ship but the two T/F are what are needed to give it a better feel. Now putting it out with new unique pilots and some alternative upgrades is an idea.

If they were to introduce an alternative faction then I could see a "starter" based on that but really it would be more of a multi-ship expansion pack. To me the same would be true for a three ship Rebel or Empire pack which would probably include the three "primary" fighters that aren't in the normal starter.

New starter set would be called "Star Wars: Tie Figher". It would contain one Tie Defender and Two Z-95's.

Rebel Starter Set: X-Wing +Y-Wing + A-Wing

New Pilot card for Luke Skywalker, new astromechs, 2 new pilots for the Y-Wing that allow elite pilot talents and a Title card for the A-Wing that gives it 3 Attack dice.

Imperial Starter Set: Tie-fighter + Tie-Intercepter + Tie-Advanced

New Pilot cards, Title card for the Tie-Advanced that gives it 3 Attack dice and a new elite pilot talent card usable only by Darth Vader (Something like an improved Swarm Tactics that effects all ships within range1).

A "starter set" needs to include everything required to play the game, otherwise it's not a starter. Since a set with ships of only one side can't be played on its own, I highly doubt that we'll see such things.

Not sure why they would do a new starter set, the current one serves its purpose, but by its nature would be asymetrical, possibly just 2 x-wings and 4 TIEs.

WTF? The starter set is perfect like it is. If you want to have 2 X-Wings and 4 Ties, then buy 2 sets.

What you guys mean are kind of 'Army Deals' or more a 'Squadron In A Box' in this case.

X-Wing isn't like Warhammer where you need about a hundred of models ... so I see no need for this.

ok so lets call it an "Expansion Set". In theory u will already have the base starter set and u r getting a cheaper deal on buying more ships in one go as well as getting some upgrades and improvements (the ships themselves will be repaints).

Now I got it. You ask for ... lets call it a 'Fleet Booster' ... with 3 Ships of one side for the price of the starter set.

Maybe with exclusive pilot cards and stuff ..

What you call it does make a world of difference. If you admit it is an "expansion" then it is an easier pill to swallow. Although here I'd caution that what you're asking for is basically what we'll be getting with the Imperial Aces pack; multiple ships in one pack. The thing there is I'm not so sure that is going to be any cheaper than getting a pair of Interceptors individually.

yus! thats it exactly.

Starters are... cheap. Starters for anything give you more bang for the buck than anything that comes after; that's because they're designed to lure folks into a game, and a given company is willing to go basically zero-balance in the hopes of creating a fanbase. Look at X-Wing's; the cost for the three ships ALONE is cheaper than three corresponding boosters, and you get the books, dice, the templates...

The game's already successful. You aren't going to see a "Fleet Booster" that offers basically what a Starter has, for the same price. That's a pipe dream. What you'll perhaps see is along the lines of Imperial Aces .

The only other conceivable time you'll get the same deal is if/when FFG branches off from the Rebellion Era and goes Clone Wars; then, it would be entirely reasonable to expect such a package. But not until then.

And for THAT, I'm thinking two Aethersprites and four Vultures. Why? Because they're all eentsy.

Oooorrr... maybe one and three. Hmm.

I don't see this happening, at least not for a couple years. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see one after episode 7 comes out and features the new ships from that movie. Man I hope it doesn't suck.

i would like to see the basic starter kit stay as it is.

But if FFG offer a Pro Starter kit. I would love it if it includes the following:

70$-80$

Green A-wing: standard set + 1 new pilot or A-wing only upgrade

Gray Y- Wing: standard set + adv proton a new pilot and 1 new astromech

Silver framework Tie Advanced: standard set + new pilot

Silver Framework Tie Interceptor: standard set + 1 imperial aces pilot

+1 Alternate art Push The Limit upgrade card

1 set of 3 damage and 3 evade dice

Acrylic movement templates and an acrylic range ruler

current tournament rules book

tokens and rules for all campaign games

a helpful sheet displaying the movement map all current ships, and rules for all upgrades (bombs, turrets, etc.)

2 packs of 50 upgrade card sleeves

1 pack of 60 pilot card sleeves

(sleeves have an image that appeals to both rebel and imperial players)

I don't see it happening. I don't really want a starter with different ships. Pilots, sure, I would always love new pilots, but one of the things I love about this game is how the X-wing and the TIE Fighter are the core fighters in the game. Sure you can build squadrons without them, but it almost requires a conscious choice. I have loved the way that as new expansions have come out they have added depth to the game, but none of them have made me think, "Wow, I guess I don't need TIE Fighters(or X-Wings) anymore".

I have played a number of mini table top games and this sort of thing is more common than you might imagine.

My hope for this game is no matter what FFG adds that these two core fighters stay the core fighters.

I love the idea of faction packs. I have just enough rebels to teach the game and supplement other players lists, my money is mostly single faction so it stays a hobby and not a collection

I would love to see a third faction "starter"

I would like to see some new scenario packs like our large ships come with a new scenario or two. But have an escort where we would get a cargo container and 2 x's new cards for EPT,or a modeled satellite package with two or three ships that focus on the maneuvering with pic heavy FAQ and QA with acrylic templates. Can't wait for the two large ships next year, but make some deals to help players have access to ships that aren't readily available like the x, y, a
