Next Expansion After Dungeon - Any Ideas?

By player30867, in Talisman

I was wondering what everyone thinks or hopes will be the next expansion after Dungeon. I feel we will get a small expansion or two before another new board. A pack focused on more Characters (new and old) would be very welcome, and perhaps a small, themed selection of new Adventure cards for the main deck, perhaps with some additional mechanics (archery anyone?).

:)

Your already worried about another expansion when you don't even have this one in your hands yet? sheesh....all i want are some new spells, and a death/dark knight kind of figure. basically a warrior whos evil and can do something necromantic. basically a warrior ghoul, but i'd want an actual figure and card for him. Thats all i want.

We know that there are three more planed, I can wait for that. I think that it would be nice to have a semi regular issue of a mini-expansion...like a new character and some new spell and adventure cards.

I dream about a well thought out version of the City expansion. But that's a bigger one, of course, so in the meantime I'd like to see something that reworks the endgame, and a couple more characters.

I wanna see Timescape expansion and Dragons expansion. So that's one expansion with a new board and one with new characters and adventure cards only.

No! No Timescape... please!

Finally someone here, who would like to see Timescape too. I would like to see expansion which would introduce different kind of winning the game (and I don't mean Alternative Endings) at defferent Realms or boards - something in which we would not be forced to go to Crown of Command space. Maybe even small setting, in which Crown of Command would be a Magic Object we can carry and we would win, if we would travel it to another space in another Realm.

I would like to see an expansion(s), which would introduce different way of movement. Like in Timeescape. Maybe spaces that we would have more possibilities to interaction with them. Maybe even board, where moving from Timescape would be mixed with moving from the Main Board.

Maybe different kind of mechanics (like "Snotlings" fan-made expansion from Talisman Island for Talisman 3rd Edition), different way of using current cards (like the Knight of Day, which won Talisman Island anniversary contets).

I agrre we should expect another just cards and characters set before any boards - but with a new FFG twist like the reaper and the quest cards.

I'd love to see Timescape remade (powered down a notch for ballance) Maybey with some sci/fi characters only for re-entry and only if a vortex is on board (they'd start there).

I'm most keen to see a Dragon's Tower remake though!

Well, we’ve seen The Dungeon described as one of the four realms so I’m certain we’ll see another three corner boards. The City is a pretty dead cert but only time will tell if the other two realms will be the Forest and the Mountains. Quite like both of these two although the decks are too small. It’s quite common in our games for players to head to the Forest to boost their Craft due to the high ration of Spirits there. Quite often the deck gets cycled through. I’m sure the FFG version wouldn’t have that problem though!

If the plan is to do the Realms then I my guess is that they will intersperse them with smaller, card only sets. A few hints have been dropped that alternative endings could be included. I quite like the 2nd edition alternative endings but had to do a fair amount of house ruling to make them usable.

My feeling is that Timescape is pretty low on the list of possibilities but slightly ahead of the chance of them doing a remake of the Polish only Cave set! I quite like the Timescape myself but I’m having flashbacks to the hours spent years ago watching players with the Warp Belt cycling through the deck over and over again while an angry player sat with the Crown of Command, Belt of Hercules or Pandora’s Box being unable to touch them!

FFG seem to be focusing on miniatures for some of their other games so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see metal miniatures with character cards set at some point.

So my guess for the next two expansions is a card only set with alternative endings followed by The City.

Geoff

"Cave" would be good, but knowing FFG, they would change the board, maybe one original character would appear from it (rest would be again from Talisman Expansion Set or Talisman Adventure), rules would be slighty changed and from original "Cave" we would only have new board with semi old card and the name. Also don't forget, there is 2 (even 3 but that's not important) editions of the "Cave" and every is different than other. Second edition for "Magia i Miecz" had different board; edition for "Magiczny Miecz" had some bugs fixed and few cards had different mage. BTW, almost every single character from the "Cave" is better than Dark Cultist XD, that would be fun, if they would reprint them with Fate value XD.

I just sent twenty "new" characters to Talisman Island. They're all playtested and should be vaguely familiar to Talisman players. They'll be up at some point soon and may curb the new characters craving a bit.

cool, i check out some of those new characters.

i would not mind a timescape like expansion, just so long as its more thematical appropriet

If they added ANOTHER outer region around the board, maybe a mountain scape, that would be awesome, there would be 4 regions. the only problem would be table space. demonio.gif Of course, new characters, spells, and adventure cards are always welcome.

My only gripe with Timescape was that it seemed like a thinly veiled excuse to bring WH40K to Talisman. Some of the stuff on that board was lots of fun, but it didn't justify having space marines running around my precious fantasy board game. (I love 40K too, just not while I'm playing Talisman.) Considering that FFG definitely doesn't have the rights to use 40K characters, I think a reimagined Timescape expansion could be quite fun. A few scifi elements would be fine, but I'd prefer if it focused on dimension hopping rather than space travel.

Is not Dark Heresy a 40K gdr? (it is a true question, i really dont know)

I dont know the old timescape exp but i like the idea, ofc it could be the last because need a really good thinking about it for balance (a technology character could easly win against sword guys, only mages can have a tiny chance, so balance is hard). I played a old talisman version (dont know which it was) with 4 exp board and the central tower, i liked much city and central tower.

They're up. Take a look at the new thread, or just hop over to TalismanIsland.com.

Cheers!

With what I've seen of the new Dungeon board I'd love a reworked City..... and if there is a Mountain area and Forrest that would be Gravy. I'd also like more adventure cards and characters so if they come up with small expansions that is fine. Timescape was really one of my favorite expansions " I really don't know why LOL.. " but it can wait.

What I don't what is an insert for the innereageon as I play on my 3d board and that would SUCK!!! But that aside I think that an insert and alternate ending " such as a tower or dragon mountain type deal would be a great expansion but one that would give me endless headaches trying to make it fit the board.

I'm a litte worried further expansions, specially new version of the classic ones, because i remember them killing the game for me. And somehow i'm not keen on spending hours on developing house rules with my constant players if the FFG products follow that trend.

I bought The Reaper expansion last week, and it already feels like the difficulty has been increased. So i'm against doing a lot of big expansions. I'd rather like some smaller expansion and extra characters to be released.

The Dragon Tower and Forest realm are at the top of my list.

But i feel that FFG will first bring the city out before the other 2 realms after the dungeon expansion..

It is 40K (and so is the upcoming Rogue Trader RPG), but since those are RPGs they don't officially use miniatures and I'm guessing that's the only reason GW is letting FFG print it. I don't think GW will let them use 40K minis in a Talisman expansion, which is just as well because I don't want them to. =)

Well, I have good news and I have bad news. The bad news is, judging by FFG's track record with other board games, they will probably do a LOT of expansions for Talisman (both new and old.) FFG loves to crank out expansions for things. The good news is they all come in separate boxes, so you're not required to buy all of them (or even any of them) if all you want is the core game. =)

To me, this is good news! gran_risa.gif

Expansions are good news to me. Since FFG uses to keep them thematically and technically independent, you may combine them as you wish. I hope they're going to do something similar to Runebound: big box expansions with new board regions, and smaller card or Character expansions with specific themes and maybe some additional rules.

My experience with FFG has certainly been that they do not release a lot of expansions which they should have left out or done a lot more work on. So I have decided to trust them to crank out a host of great expansions for one of my favourite games, and hope they don't disappoint me. happy.gif
