I dont have my rulebook with me so I apalagize for not knowing the details.

After the acolytes meet with that man who is the reason they called called to that planet. He tells them they can go to that shopping district market place where they can buy items and find out more information. The book says they can get into trouble but i dont know what I want to do with them.

Im asking for some help to figure out what can happen to them in the market place- please help me.

Some ideas just off the top of my head...

  • If the acolytes killed some of the Ashleen thugs in the valley they might come back for some payback, only now they will be ready for a serious fight - and this time they rounded up a few more of their friends. A running battle in the market place ensues.
  • One of the acolytes is sold a piece of faulty equipment. The seller refuses to give him his money back. What happens next depends on how you (the GM) and the player roleplay the event.
  • The group attracts the attention of a pair of pick-pockets. One of them approaches the PC's, trying to distract them while the other attempts to steal their valuables.
  • The crazy old man from the alley starts following them around, loudly sprouting the same gibberish as before. He won't stop, and soon starts to attract attention from the locals - something the acolytes presumably won't be too happy about if they're trying to keep a low profile.
  • An Arbitrator patrol checks their documents and inquires about the purpose of their stay in Port Suffering. If you feel a bit sadistic there might be something wrong with one of the PC's papers and he is taken in for questioning.

I hope this helps.

Further option:

- a local merchant sells "trainend" duskdogs (the riding animals mentioned later in "Stern Hope"). While on the market, the pc become witness of the poor skill of the a merchants animal handler as one or two duskdogs go wild after the handle tries to beat/whip them into submission. The pc can either flee (as most of the crowd) or try to capture/put down the duskdogs

If they want to flee the area, it is Agility checks for getting away and not getting down (and trampled?) in the crowd

If they kill the duskdogs, the merchant might want "compensations" since he "never asked for your help and my men could have handled this all by themselves!". Barter could make him drop the "compensation", Intimidation will simply scare him off. Never the less, some local Ashleen might be glad they helped and either give them a charm and a blessing (perhabs the first fate point he uses this adventure stays with him?) or something minor but helpfull.

If they somehow manage to calm down the dustdog(s) (Animal Handling?), not only the local will be happy but the merchant will offer them some small coin for their help, as well

- A freshly arrived preacher of the red redepemption gathers followers for a "crusade to conquer land from the worthless vile barbarians and rise a settlement for the glory of the Him on Terra". As they pass by, the preacher adresses them directly to join his course. If they do not refuse cordial (charm) or with a lot of holy pomp (Common Lore: Imperial Creed) he will get very angry at them, claiming that they scoff at the Holy Emporer. Now, the pc either have to scare him and his men off (intimidation) or calm them down (charm; imperial creed; deceive...but not the method they used before or else it is one step more difficult!). Otherwise, stones and debris will be thrown at them as the followers of the preachers try to drive them off the market (1w10 damage; mind TB and Armour!). If the pc fight back..well it´s on, but the enforcers will come in after a 5 to 10 rounds of tumult and raging.

I did the street thing and I also used it to help the players get some of the info from the insert page about the planet by talking to locals.

Also, how would you describe a duskdog and what would you price them at?

Also, how the fight in the alley turned out, helped determine the Inquiry roll bonuses and/or negatives, depending on who they talked to.
