Question About Once Per Turn Abilities

By Suija2, in UFS Rules Q & A

I know that this question has probably been asked but I couldn't find it after searching for it. This question may only apply to Akuma6 but if I play an ability that requires a CC to a difficulty of X and fail the CC needed to play the ability, I know that in Akuma's case I can not play it again for the card that I am trying to hax but am I able to play the ability again on a different card that my opponent or in the case of an E or F ability that has the same kind of restrictions I could play it on a different attack (if it is an E) or just play it again (if it was an F and yes I know that such a card or ability does not exist but I am just talking hypothetically). I was told NO I could not play it again after trying and failing to play it at our most recent tourny but the way that I would see it, I would think that this would fall under the same mentality of the ability being negated. That is to say the ability was not successfully played and thus the "Once Per Turn" restriction would never go into effect.

Yes, you can attempt to play it again. Because his text says "Once per turn" and not "Only playable once per turn", if you do fail it or it is negated, you may play it again.

In other words, the ability has to successfully resolve in order for the "once per turn" part to come into play.

there is a difference between "Once per turn..." and "blah blah blah. Only playable once per turn."

Ninja Edit: Got beat to it by a guy in a pink gi

Issuing stamps today like they're going out of style! :)

wait a minute ur saying that if i fail with akuma's cc hack effect (say roll a 2) then i can try again on the same card?????

Also if its negated i can try on same or different card?

You may not play his ability again on the same trigger, but you may play it responding to a subsequent check this turn.

you cannot try again on the same card because that yould be attempting the same ability on the same trigger, which doesnt happen

So, let's say that Akuma uses his ability on the opponent, and the opponent attempts to play an action card to negate the ability, for example Tag Along. Can the Akuma player play his ability again, hack Tag Along to make it fail, then resolve to make the original check also fail? Or does one override the other?

Just because I'm having fun with this... lets cite the soon to be published Advanced Game Rules, and see what they have to say on once per turn abilities:

2.9.0.6 Some cards have the words “Only playable” written in the last line of text in their effect. This line of text is to be regarded as an additional restriction and not part of the card effect.
2.9.0.6.1 If an ability with an "Only playable" restriction is negated or canceled, it has still been played/activated, and may not be attempted again.

Wow, those rules are pretty thorough. Any idea when they will be published for us to enjoy?

Just to clarify and because Mr. Anrigoth is having fun, a card like will for the fight has R: once per turn, STUFF. That is playable again even if negated? Wording is a bit different.

Correct.

Since in the case of Will for the Fight the limiter is part of the ability, and the ability was cancelled, the limiter was never triggered.
