I feel like the A-Wing needs a small improvement much more than the Y-Wing. I fly the Y-Wing pretty often and it never disapoints me. The A-Wing on the other hand... Love the ship, but it just doesn't bring enough for the points.
Rebel Aces Speculation
I feel like the A-Wing needs a small improvement much more than the Y-Wing. I fly the Y-Wing pretty often and it never disapoints me. The A-Wing on the other hand... Love the ship, but it just doesn't bring enough for the points.
Saying all this, the A-Wing and Y-Wing are being used. The Advanced needs a look far more than any of the Rebel ships. And I would say I play both sides equally. I use A-Wings and Y-Wing regularly, but can't find a place for the Advanced.
I've said this in previous threads but for an Rebel pack to balance the Imperial Aces I believe it should be a split with a Y-Wing and an A-Wing. These are arguably the two rebel ships that could use the most help and the upgrades that can go between them can be used to cover all the other rebels ships. The Y-Wings upgrades can also be used on the X, HWK, and B while the A-Wing allows the EP talents and missiles which could go toward the Falcon; I guess cannons and sensors are missing but some suggest the A-Wing could get a tile allowing it to use sensor upgrades.
With a THIRD X-Wing source coming out already I really don't think we'd need to see a fourth when there are other rebel ships that could use the boost and increased availability a lot more.
Don't know if this has been discussed recently, but here goes.
A number of pilots are likely to show up in the future for the Rebels. Some of them make sense for inclusion in a possible "Rebel Aces" package. I assume this pack would be a pair of repainted X-Wings, but maybe not. Perhaps a pair of mixed re-paints?
Here are some possibilities:
X-Wing Pilots from Rogue Squadron
Arhul Narra: I had never heard of this guy, but being listed as a co-founder of Rogue Squadron alongside Wedge and Luke makes him a very attractive "Ace".
Derek "Hobbie" Klivian: Has to be involved somewhere. Actually has some screen time in the OT.
Gavin Darklighter: guy from many novels
Corran Horn: a notable guy from a good series of novels
Tycho Celchu: The first cross-vessel guy (here flying his X-Wing instead of an A-Wing).
Flew Against a Death Star, Yavin or Endor (and died, like Biggs & Arvel)
Pretty select company. These people have screen time, too.
John D Brannon: X-Wing, Red 4
Elyhek Rue: X-Wing, Red 7
Bren Quersey: X-Wing, Red 8
Theron Nett: X-Wing, Red 10
Tiree: Y-Wing, Gold 2 (shot down by Vader)
John Vander: Y-Wing, Gold Leader (shot down by Vader)
Davish "Pops" Krail: Y-Wing, Gold 5 (shot down by Vader)
Grizz Frix: X-Wing
Ekelarc Yong: Y-Wing
Sila Kott: A-Wing; female pilot
Keir Santage: X-Wing, Red 7 (flew into 2nd Death Star with Lando, Wedge, Tycho, Horton, and Farrell)
Flew Against a Death Star, Yavin or Endor (and Lived!)
Jake Farrell: A-Wing, flew into Death Star II with Lando
Gemmer Sojan: A-Wing vs DSII and GR-75 Transport pilot at Hoth ("Bearing Lifter")
Dutch Vander was in the Y-Wing BLT A4 set.
I would love to have Farlander Gold 7 Y-Wing, becomes Gold leader because he was the only A4 survivor. This is the guy from the X-Wing series
Sign me up for a mixed A-wing and Y-wing set. Not only would you get two sets of cards and ships, you could see scenario packs similar to the 'Rebel Transport' pack. A 'Heavy Hitters' pack could have a B-wing and Y-wing. 'Deadly Foes' could see a TIE/F and X-wing. I'm not saying we need more X-wings, just that a mixed patch sets a precedent for really interesting options down the line.
I think the upgrade cards in the aces packs are the most important. Pilots will come and their abilities will be balacned in accordance with what FFG has been doing. Cards i thought might fix a few ships the names can be whatever so i am just going to put abilities
xwing only: recieve one EPT in your upgrade bar must be pilot skill 4 or higher
(On a side note this could easilly be ywing only)
Tie advanced only: Gain a sensor slot in your upgrade bar
(once again could totally go on the ywing)
Ywing only: gain a crew upgrade slot.
I think some of you see where i am going with this. I hope they bring in a bunch of 0 point upgrades that may or may not be ship specific but allow wave 1 to have access to some of the toys of waves 2 and 3. Would be easy to balance and allow even more ship customization. As for astromechs keep them rebel, bombs keep them imperial and turrets keep them rebel.
My preference at this point would be for more Y-wings. They only have 2 named pilots compared to others from Wave 1 (I'm not counting the advanced since technically it was a unique ship) and the absence of a Y-wing pilot with EPT seems to be an oversight. Presumably Pollard will be the "ace" though I suppose it's less of an aces pack and could be more of a mission pack, comprising a bombing scenario (obvious choice being death star trench run).
As mentioned above, upgrades are the most useful thing to have to expand rebel options - more named droids, more abilities, and more modifications.
... i don't think there will be a 'Rebel Aces' pack so soon ...
Did the X-Wing need a boost? ... not really - new pilots are incoming with the transport.
Did the A-Wing need a boost? ... maybe a smaaaall one ... but not necessarily ...
Did the Y-Wing need a boost? ... yeah a smallish boost perhaps ... or more a shove in direction of its should-be main role as topedo bomber.
But:
do FFG need our money? Of course! ... so expect the Rebels get hopefully their aces in wave 4.5
so expect the Rebels get hopefully their aces in wave 4.5
Yeah I think you won't see a Rebel Aces pack until after Wave 4. Honestly with the issues FFG is having just keeping the basic ships in stock, add Wave 4 onto that and I think it would be even better for them to wait until then to do something like that.

John Vander: Y-Wing, Gold Leader (shot down by Vader)
So we get him in the game twice?
Oh, right. My mistake.
The only astromech I'd like to see on the Imperial side would be in a bounty hunter's ship: namely Dengar's JumpMaster 5000.
Not because I particularly like Dengar, but because he is a bounty hunter and his ship did make use of a droid. In fact, his R2 unit was supposedly a gunner!
pilots: Dengar, Manaroo, two other generics
Title: Punishing One
Astromech slot (a first for Imperials?)
Ion Cannon comes standard?
They are obviously beginning to get a bit caught up, though. I mean, the A-wing and Interceptor are already on dock for a reprint, and those don't seem to be low right now. So FFG is getting their supply in order. And ideally, each reprint will hopefully last longer than the last.
The line is beginning to diversify. I think between new Waves, capital ships, "Aces" type repaints, and the normal reprints, I think FFG will be able to handle some of the high capacity.
I want an A-wing pack, mainly because I want a green and blue A-wing.

For Imperial Aces #2: I want to have that bomber pilot
Her ability must be: when acquiring a target lock, you may lock onto half a dozen enemy ships. Not broken in the slightest.

I think that's called Roboteching. Honestly, I would give her the ability to move through or stop on asteroids without suffering any of the penalties.
"Slash" Lulu - Pilot Skill 6
After performing a Barrel Roll action you may acquire a Target Lock.

When you attack with a secondary weapon and your attack hits, each other ship at range 1 of the defender suffers 1 damage.
So... it'd be like the effect of assault missiles on every secondary weapon? I dunno, that sounds pretty OP, dude.
With PS 8 this should just be fine.
Just watch the movie again - it is exactly what she does, transported into the game.
So... it'd be like the effect of assault missiles on every secondary weapon? I dunno, that sounds pretty OP, dude.
Give her two cluster missiles or even two assault missiles and pair her with Jonus. Yeah, WAY overpowered.
Its the same effect like you have to confront like 3 Gammas with Assault missiles and Jonus:
Break up your tight formation or go to hell! Also there is not much of a difference when fighting against say 3 rebel aces, which are NOT in a R1 distance. It would be an unique and expensive ability, just like rhymer ... so no OPness here, no sir.
In range 1 with CM she would even blow up their own ship - so there is only R2 left to fire CM ... this is far from being OP at all.
Are you kidding? You could give her Seeker Missiles while Focusing, and you'd never miss as long as you rolled one hit or eyeball. Hell, if you paired her with that one shuttle that can shift Target Locks you'd make a tight group of fighters miserable.
Edited by LeoHowlerCommon ... just how green are you? just go to loose formation to nullify this ability.
I've only played ten games but I never lose, I'll have you know.

Now that says everything.
