Has the Edge of the Empire (RPG) any relationship with The Edge of Darkness (LCG Expansion) ?

Both of them have a lot of things in common (Smugglers, bounty hunters..., scum....) as The Age of Rebellion (Beta RPG) will have a relationship with a future LCG expansion (pilots and fighters) in the same sense as The Balance of The Power (LCG with Jedi and Sith cards) with the third and future RPG.

I don't think so. Rather, no more so than it's the same company sharing assets across brands. I have no idea how FFG is organized, but I would guess each line has a different development team so any commonalities are coincidence.

Of course they want to cut costs. They are doing this by trying to get as much use of their commissioned art as they can. They had all these art assets for EotE, so released cards using that art. Pretty straightforward.
