Your Favorite Virtual Tabletop for EotE

By CaptainRaspberry, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

All right, guys. I just want to know one simple thing: when you use a virtual tabletop for EotE games, what setup do you use?

I have a game starting next month that I'll be running over the Internet, and all my players swear by Epic Table. I've downloaded it (and paid for it, but I can return it if I'm not satisfied) and it's pretty handy. You can't insert custom dice symbols, so we'll be getting a lot of mileage out of Table 1-2: Standard to Task Dice Conversion. I'm looking into ways to program macros that will filter different results, but I'm not counting on anything.

The other big problem is no audio or video. It has a text-only chat, which I can use for certain instances, but I'm used to having at least an audio connection to my players. Skype charges for video conferencing, so my clever way around it is to maybe have Google Hangout in the background, but it's far from perfect.

I'm also looking for decent mapmaking software, since Epic Table is all about the maps.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

Roll20.net can integrate with google hangouts. There's a nifty EotE dice roller application you can get with it.

Some people were having problems with it a few weeks ago from what I heard, but I can't tell if that was an isolated incident. When I used it to help a friend roll a character for a PbP I am using, it seemed to work fine, though that was a little over a month ago.

I couldn't get MapTool to work. I am admittedly not a programmer of any kind.

We have been using Roll20 in Google+ Hangout for months and loving it. I pay $10 a month to use the dynamic lighting feature and feel it's quite worth it.

Here are some pics of our games:

Thanks, guys! Roll20 looks right up my alley, especially using the Hangouts with the EotE dice app. I'll be using that to run my game, and I might spring for the $50/year subscription.

Conviction, those are some wicked cool maps. How easy was it to set those up? I recognize some of them from Wookieepedia, but do you have another source? Do you make them yourself?

I am not artistic at all, and am just this year learning to use Gimp 2.0(free editing software), so all the maps I use are made by others. I do cobble together some stuff, like the Space Range Bands.

Oh and here are my vehicle maps and exteriors:

Thanks for this, some great stuff. Especially the vehicle maps!
