My players all seem to think they each need their own ships, but haven't had to worry much about the downsides of that yet. How much are docking fees per ship usually? They are about to go to the Wheel, and I don't remember seeing a fee in Beyond the Rim for this. Do the fees flu hate much from location to location? What is about the average? Thanks!!
Docking fees
i would make it enough that somone who want to negotiate it down take in acount how much credits they have and do 10%
We're about to head there and our GM just told us that it's 2,000 credits. I don't know if that's from the book or not, but that's the best I can help.
Docking fees vary wildly from port to port. The fees generally cover not only berthing but also things like automatically updating the ships starmaps, ImPerRe, Imperial and local taxes and other stuff. There's generally an import tax for any goods in the ships hold. A couple of percent of the total value.
The fees can be as low as 10 - 20 credits for the barebones port on the edge of the Empire to several thousand credits for state-of-the-art space port in the core worlds.
I'd say anything between a few hundred up to a few thousand for docking at the Wheel is reasonable depending on where (closer to the big casinos and expensive hotels) and what facilities the berth offers.
IIRC Docking Bay 94 in Mos Eisley is listed as 20 credits.
The Wheel, for one of the wealthy bays is something like 10,000 credits.
A docking buoy is something like 1,000 credits + 100 per person entering The Wheel.
Seems really pricey, but I already had an adventure on The Wheel and did some research before running it, and those were the prices I had in my notes. I don't remember exactly where I found them.
Yeah I used the example they had in the book for laws of different planets and applied it to The Wheel and it came out to 1,200 credits or so. Expensive, but I made sure to tell them why it was so (No apparent Imperial influence) which turns out nicely for a couple of them the Empire would be looking for.
Expenses are a great way to keep players from amassing too much wealth but still be able to reward them during adventures. How much would really be more a matter of a % that keeps them wanting to get more but still allowing them to amass useful sums. Docking fees, and particularly ship maintenance, are really easy ways to justify a housekeeping charge at the beginning of a session.
My group's paying 35c per day for basic "parking and refueling" on Nar Shaddaa, 350c for a berth suitable for repairs (includes price of replacement parts (i.e. whatever starship Hit Points are made of, not actual components)). But that's only because we have a Hutt patron.
This seems to have been discussed before:

Edited by Col. OrangeRead platts starport guide on a plane last week, so I got some examples on hand..
Limited services port on ryloth: 25-100/day
Almost abandoned space station: 25/day
Major civilized planet: 25-100/day
Mobile shadowport:100/day + 1500/jump if they stay on for a movement
Backwater agro colony: 10-50/day
Major industrial core world of high strategic value: 150-2000/day
Barely populated dirtball: free!
Prices vary by size of ship, landing pad, the port owers whimsey, ect. And this is just for taking up space, not repairs, restocking ect.
Here take a look at this thread:
Docking fees
These vary from spaceport to spaceport, but most spaceport Standard class or larger charge 50 credits per day. A busy Imperial Class spaceport might charge 150 credits a day
Standard Maintenance and restocking:
Standard restock includes replenishment for all fluids - water, lubricants, coolants and oxygen. Also included are basic proteins for autochefs, but not luxury items like fresh food or liquor.
Cost is a flat fee depending on the total crew and passenger capacity of the ship times the "consumables" in days (10 x Total capacity x Consumables)
Fuel
Spaceports can equipped with fusion generators that recharge fuel cells. At the slowest rate of charge, this costs next to nothing, but if called upon to recharge quickly, the costs increase rapidly. The following costs reflects most Standard Class star ports. It is likely to be cheaper at better class ports and more expensive at more primitive ports:
Charging Rate - Cost per cell
Trickle (1 cell/day) - 5 credits
Standard (1 cell/hour) - 10 credits
Fast (4 cells/hour) - 50 credits
Emergency (20 cells/hour) - 500 credits
I did some numbers on the example of the Elrood planet in the EotE rulebook.
The Elrood planet is the capital planet of the Elrood system and while located in the Outer Rim is considered a "highly civilized and developed planet". It is the manufacturing and primary trade center of the sector. In short a wealthy and important planet with highly developed and rigorous local laws enforced by local police and security forces. The planet abides by Imperial law but has a very low Imperial presence and security forces might not even have registered infractions of Class 1 or 2 from other systems. According to wookipedia Elrood has 6 billion inhabitants.
A YT-1300 light freighter that lands in one of Elrood's many starports (of which most would be classified as either Stellar or Standard class starports) pays
- a 5 credits visitation fee per sentient being (not counting droids)
- a landing fee of 34.75 credits (calculated at 10 credits per 10 menters of the ship, the YT-1300 being 34.75 meters in lenght)
- a berthing fee of 3.475 credits per day (calculated as 10 % of the landing fee per day)
On top of this ranged weapons and melee weapons exceeding 10 cm in lenght are restricted but can be carried with a permit costing 50 credits per weapon (military weapons like carbines or rifles, or armour are not allowed at all).
This means that a crew of 4 hardened scoundrels landing their YT-1300 light freighter in one of Elrood's starports would pay 38.225 credits ( if it were me I would probably let the crew pay an even 10 credits per 10 "started" meters meaning a YT-1300 would pay 40 credits) for the ship and an additional 20 credits for the crew when landing.
They would also have to pay 200 credits in permits for their weapons (assuming each bring one blaster pistol) and have to leave any rifles and armour behind when they leave their ship in pursuit of their dodgy mission. They would also pay 3.475 credits per day.
This does not include recharging, restocking or repairing. If they're bringing any cargo they also have to pay 1 % of the value and the ship's manifest will be scrutinized (any discrepancies costing them 20 % of the missing value).
To me this seems low for a busy port but on the other hand it could be a case of a "low threshold trade port". Meaning the authorities wants to keep the initial fees low in order to attract business. They can charge for every other little service that a starship needs and that perhaps other starports would include in the basic landing/docking fee.
Edit: changed the commas to periods to make sense in english
Edited by bladerunner_3538,225 plus 3,475 credits a day is cheap to you? Man I must be seriously underpaying my players!!
Or is a comma used differently in Sweden...?
Oh, right that should probably read 38.475 (as in close to 39 credits).
"Ten thousand? We could almost buy our own ship for that!"
"yeah, but who's gonna fly it kid, you?"
"Heck no. I'm a terrible pilot."
"Seriously."
BOOM!
"See?"
