Weapon Mod Question

By JPierson, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So I'm reading through the core rulebook and came across something that I need help with to make it a little more clear to me- Modding Attachments. So it says that each attachment has a modification options section and some mods will have a number before them indicating that option can be installed multiple times. Otherwise, each option can only be installed once.

So, here's my question- does that mean that each item listed can be put on the attachment? So, for example a balanced hilt can have 1 weapon quality AND the decrease encumbrance? Or does it mean that you can only pick one or the other? I'm sure its a simple answer but I just want to be sure as I do have some ULTRA META players.

Thanks

It can have both. First check to install 3 purple dice. Second mod for that attachment 4 purple dice. The weapon quality is Accurate in the case of the balanced hilt which is a boost die in game terms. The encumbrance decrease is one for whatever weapon it is placed on.

You can install whatever is listed as many times as listed as long as you increase the difficulty each time and you roll a success. In the case of multiples of the same one, some have 2 damage boosts if you succeed on one and fail the next you get the one you succeeded on. You can move on to other mods with each attempt getting successively harder.

There is an ongoing discussion over how many purple dice to roll, some say after three mods you upgrade to a challenge die, some say after the first mod you upgrade to a challenge die, some say unless the GM spends a destiny point you never upgrade to a challenge die.

When it comes to dice, a guideline in EotE is that once you reach five difficulty dice, Formidable difficulty, any further increase is treated as an upgrade. I'm AFB so I can't give you a page reference, but I'm pretty sure that's what the book says (of course I might be confusing attempting Impossible tasks with something else). Now, this is a guideline more than a strict rule, but I'd do it that way in most cases. Of course, once you reach 5 challenge dice... you can start adding more difficulty dice, but at this point attempting a task might be silly.

Adding the modification options start at Hard [three dice] difficulty. You can only install one modification option per check, and each check increases the difficulty by 1. So the third modification option is of Formidable difficulty. The fourth would be 4 difficulty dice and 1 challenge die.

Adding the attachment requires no mechanics check and applies all Basic Modifications.
